When it happened, Rahm Emmanuel called up Boehner, cussed a blue streak at him, and demanded an apology. Boehner, spineless as always, complied and ordered Wilson to fall on his sword. I remember it well.

I do not disagree with your recollection, although I seem to recall Wilson saying he got either two telcals from prominent Republicans or was on a joint call with two of them. I did write about it at the time here on FR and Boner was one of the parties.

And, as The Kid suggests, Wilson should have at least given the public a clear factual explanation for his action. I do not think Boner would have been able to justify any further unfavorable treatment.
