April 08, 2014, 12:54 pm Husband of woman McAllister kissed: 'He has wrecked my life'

By Rebecca Shabad

The husband of the woman who was caught kissing Rep. Vance McAllister (R-La.) in a video that surfaced Monday says the congressman has destroyed his life and marriage.

“I’m just freaking devastated by the whole deal, man. I loved my wife so much. I cannot believe this. I cannot freaking believe it. I feel like I’m going to wake up here in a minute, and this is all going to be a bad nightmare,” Heath Peacock told CNN on Tuesday.

Peacock told CNN he wasn’t aware of what happened until his wife, Melissa Peacock, 33, called him a few hours before the news broke.

“He has wrecked my life,” Peacock said of McAllister on CNN. “We’re headed for divorce.”

The couple has been married for six years, and they have a 6-year-old son.

“It was just a kiss; that was all it was, but it embarrassed me and my family,” Peacock said. “This guy has turned my life upside down.”

His wife was seen kissing McAllister in surveillance footage that went viral on Monday. The Ouachita Citizen said it obtained the video clip from an anonymous source. It was recorded on Dec. 23, a month after McAllister was sworn into office.

Melissa Peacock was the congressman’s district scheduler, and was taken off payroll as of Monday night.

McAllister, meanwhile, says he doesn’t plan to resign and has asked God, his family and his constituents for forgiveness.

The congressman said he told his wife of 16 years about the encounter earlier this year, and they are working through it.

McAllister was elected to replace Rep. Rodney Alexander (R-La.) in a special election last fall. He ran ads touting his Christian faith, but Peacock told CNN he believed that was just a ploy for votes.

"I know his beliefs. When he ran one of his commercials, he said ‘I need your prayers,’ and I asked, ‘When did you get religious?’ He said, ‘When I needed votes,’ ” Peacock said. “He broke out the religious card, and he’s about the most nonreligious person I know.”

“Ms. Peacock has all the questions to answer on this, as it is possible she set the whole thing up and even had someone film her actions in order to embarrass the congressman.”

Why don’t you watch the video, or at least learn what it shows, before you put forth absurd theories about the motivations of the Congressman’s staffer?

If I’m not mistaken this is the guy Willie Robertson was backing.

This may well affect Duck Dynasty/Commander, Tea Party and Sarah.

I haven’t seen the video and hope it’s not what it seems to be.

Haha! I was going to say the same.

“It was just a kiss; that was all it was, but it embarrassed me and my family,” Peacock said.

Dude, watch the video. Your buddy didn't even take the time to tuck his shirt back in. Just a kiss? Um, yeah, whuuutevahhh....

“Not worth breaking up his marriage. Especially with a young child; should get counseling and try to work it out.”

I disagree. I would only say adios.

It looks like it was more than a Christmas party mishap. Looks like they knew each other’s spouses. Very sad and can’t Republicans do better than sleazeballs?

Not worth breaking up his marriage. Especially with a young child

The right thing to do is divorce her, period. (Not that divorce laws are fair to men. That's another story, and one reason I've avoided marriage.)

It’s disgusting how a stupid kiss trumps IRS political attacks, NSA/surveillance overreaches (this kiss video is one example), the murder of four Americans in Benghazi, and the multitude of cover-ups and crimes committed by damn near every member of Barry’s team, including he himself.

Just imagine if Benghazi had occurred with a Republican in the White House..the media would have demanded his resignation..had interviews with the victims families..but hey when its a Dem in power, they can pretty much get away with ANYTHING, including murder

A smart leader doesn’t put themselves in a position for this to occur. Never be alone with a subordinate or coworker of the opposite sex.

I just watched the video... that was NOT a first kiss. That was the kind of kiss that happens at the end an eventful evening.

That was the impression I got too. I think they were doing much more than kissing, out of view of the surveillance camera, a little earlier.

Participant? She’s the one that initiated the kiss.

Infidelity has different consequences for men as it does for women. The wife’s infidelity raises the horrible question are the kids mine?

Good point.

“It’s disgusting how a stupid kiss trumps”

It trumps everything especially among conservatives. We make it easy for the left.

women are much more likely to forgive their husbands of infidelity than men are willing to forgive their wives

A wife's infidelity is infinitely more serious than a husband's infidelity.

I did watch the video and observed that it was Melissa who as soon as they walked into the camera shot looked into Rep. McAllister’s eyes and puckered-up to kiss him.

I doubt that it is just coincidence that she waited right until the camera was on them for her to initiate the kiss.

What kind of person releases such a thing?

this happened just a month after he took office--running on a pro-family platform... what a dog... he is in politics... he's a stupid dog... let's see: Gary Hart, John Edwards, Petreaus, Gingrich, Hyde, Mark Sanford and a plethora of others from both parties... they didn't manage to get away with, but maybe i can... his stupidity is stupendous...
