But Republicans are not clean on these military cuts either. They brag about how "wonderful" and "great" Sequestration is, that forces the military to "pay for" 50% of all the cuts despite being 17% of the budget. The Republicans not only signed off to the Budget Control Act formula that singled the Pentagon out, they are its most ardent defenders. It is even worse because according to the Weekly Standard, the GOP leadership in the House and Senate "secretly" met with Obama and gave him their blessing to the massive $487 Billion cuts to the military that started in 2012 - and those were BEFORE Sequestration took another $650 Billion. Both cuts last 10 years.

“Chuck Mullet” Hagel was planning to submit a budget to Congress to cut the size of the military to a level not seen since 1940, before the U.S. entered World War II. The article went on to say that the Pentagon realized that this would be an inadequate force for even very small wars and certainly would not allow the U.S. to police the world and keep control of contingencies like a North Korean attack on the South or a Chinese attack on Japan or an Iranian assault on Saudi Arabia or a Russian invasion of the Ukraine.

We knew that Hagel would do exactly this. This is no surprise.
