I watched his record breaking home run with joy...to see him say something so dumb is frustrating. I thought he was smarter than that. How does Hank explain Ben Carson?.. Or Allen West? Or Mia Love? Or Star Parker? Or Clarence Thomas? Or Lloyd Marcus? Or Tim Scott?

He’s not the first historic figure to say severely regrettable things late in life. Age and a sense of self-importance can loosen a man’s tongue; many significant men have gone verbally incontinent.

Hank Aaron is probably a low-information citizen, a citizen who was never taught the federal government’s constitutionally limited powers as the Founding States had intended for those powers to be understood. So his opinion about conservatives is likely not an informed opinion.

But yeah, when he hit that record breaker, I cheered for him too. I was a kid back then. Same with Roger Maris, Micky Mantle, Mark McQuire, Sammy Sosa, and Barry Bonds. Everybody loves to see someone “going for it” and trying to beat a record.
This was a stupid thing for him to to say, but it’s more than that; he REALLY believes it - it does not appear to be something that he just blurted out in a moment of anger.

Evidently, skin color means more than just being an American and a hero to a lot of kids.
