Nevada ranching family claims victory as government releases cattle (excellent reporting)

BUNKERVILLE, Nevada (Reuters) - U.S. officials ended a stand-off with hundreds of armed protesters in the Nevada desert on Saturday, calling off the government's roundup of cattle it said were illegally grazing on federal land and giving about 300 animals back to the rancher who owned them.

The dispute less than 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas between rancher Cliven Bundy and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management had simmered for days. Bundy had stopped paying fees for grazing his cattle on the government land and officials said he had ignored court orders.

Anti-government groups, right-wing politicians and gun-rights activists camped around Bundy's ranch to support him in a standoff that tapped into long-simmering anger in Nevada and other Western states, where vast tracts of land are owned and governed by federal agencies.

“driving the humans into narrow corridors and cities.”

At 20,000, I’m living in the biggest town I’ve ever permanently lived in. I don’t like it. Cities go against human nature IMHO.

I agree. The little town nearby has grown with the oil boom to 45,000 by some estimates. It happened fast, and that comes with a host of problems too. I’m keeping my eye out for a place farther out in the weeds to retire to for reasonable money. Tough to leave an area after being solidly established there, though.

$1.35 a month to graze a pair of cows? No wonder the Bundys are fighting—that wouldn’t feed, let alone house, cows for more than a couple of hours in most parts of the country!

Talk about agricultural welfare!

Another word I wish would be banned - “diversity”.

The feds are concerned about the wildlife, but there are documented cases of the feds killing the tortoises, too.
The feds want to corral the cattle, but do nothing to control wild horses, whose uncontrolled grazing does more damage than the cattle.

And the environmental concerns may be a smoke screen, though whether the goal is gaining control of the ranch’s water rights, oil and gas rights or taking it for a solar farm are unknown. Though all three are a possibility.

In that case, I believe, the feds just turned off the water to the entire valley.

It looks like the BLT SWAT boys got all dressed up for nothing. No “hut, hut, huts” this time boys. You can go back to polishing your bullets now.

I'm sure a few of them have some serious itches on their trigger fingers that just won't go away...

I hadn’t caught it prior, as I was reading the other detail, but at the end of that particular posting it’s ‘stamped’:

great post the notice says:
The area is remote with limited vehicular access over steep, rugged terrain. There will be numerous vehicles and support
staff conducting operations in this area, as well as movement of feral cattle that pose a threat to public safety.
What public out in that area of land to impose this saftey for? how do you have remote cattle in remote rugged terrain posing a threat? to who?

Anti-government groups, right-wing politicians and gun-rights activists

That's a lot of words to describe "American Citizens"

Given the nature of Post 12, I think the question was rhetorical/sarcastic.

Google is definitely evil, though.

To me it seems like we dodged a bullet again.

Nope, that wasn't "dodging a bullet" .... that was good old fact-finding ON FR with backup reporting on InfoWars and Drudge finally getting out to the public, and the American People saying ENOUGH GOVERNMENT TYRANNY!!

The line's been drawn. The Federale's are shocked at the response, and YES WE THE PEOPLE should be emboldened.

I say GOOD JOB to those on FR who exposed Harry Reid's scheme and to those who showed up in Nevada to help the Bundy's. This will be a CASE STUDY on how to reply to the next Government Tyranny attempt.

You ain't talking Kentucky bluegrass or shortgrass prairie here. There are parts of Nevada so lean for forage the lizards pack a lunch.

Ha ha. But the cows seem to make do—on about two cents a day!

If I had managed that gift from the government for years, I might be tempted to take arms to defend my gravy train too!

Look at all those cowards hiding behind their vehicles.

Then look lower and see the real Americans, on the right hand side it looks like one father has a hand on his son’s neck, a sign of affection (I would know, my dad does this to me and I do this to my son).

I’m Canadian, and I’m proud to call these “real” Americans my neighbors.

I have been there, been here. I'm surprised the cattle there aren't miniatures. Take a look at some of the land in the background in some of those shots. If your critters aren't desert hardened, they might not last long on that diet.

Besides, the fees were to offset the expenditures for BLM help, initially, and not a grazing fee.
