There is no single agreed upon reason why Rome fell. Some say it was attacks by the barbarians/Goths, and some say the Empire itself was simply to difficult to manage and fell in upon itself.
Some historians say that it was Christianity itself that brought Rome down. That Rome could not exist as a mechanical empire once Christianity took hold.
I tend to believe the latter.
True Christianity brings the human conscience to maturity...and that is a bad thing for empire building and maintenance.

I would point out that Rome was suffering from demographic collapse forcing them to rely ever more heavily upon outside non-roman forces to defend their borders. Inevitability those forces both abandoned and transformed Rome into that which was not roman.
In this way Rome did not so much fall as it lost that which made it a strong and powerful empire.
