Here's a photo I just took within the hour. It seems to be entirely inconsistent with the posted image, if you'll note the placement of the bright edge.

I think you're right. This eclipse is tracking south of the center of the earth's shadow so the northern part of the moon should be darker than the southern part. This is consistent with your photo and ones I'm getting. This illumination is backwards compared to the photo at the top of this thread; yet the faint stars around the moon seem to fit if I guess the photo was taken near the time the thread was begun.

Looking again, I can convince myself the stars don't fit so that photo at the start of this thread can't be tonight's eclipse.

You pic is really good. And correct. The pic I took was not nearly as good as yours so I simply grabbed an old one off the net as a graphic to get the thread started.

Yours is obviously what it looked like. Did you have a pick with both of the bright stars that were next to the moon. Someone told me one of them was Mars. It would have been at a position of about 2 o’clock in your photo.
