GOP writes legislation to deny Eric Holder his salary
Washington Times ^ | April 16, 2014 | Stephen Dinan

A Republican congressman has introduced a bill that would stop government paychecks for officials who have been found in contempt of Congress — a move that seems designed in the short term to go after Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr.

Mr. Holder has refused to cooperate with House Republicans’ probe into the Fast & Furious gun-walking operation, and the House has voted to find him in contempt. Mr. Holder is challenging that vote in court.

Fantasy of course but what SHOULD be done is all senatorial/congressional and Aid/appointment jobs should be minimum wage. Dorms should be built and food provided. Old military style. That would eliminate most of the long termers and present a situation where only people wanting to serve the country would be there.

Better yet, let them ALL telecommute from their home states. Whether elected or appointed. This is the Internet age. No need to be IN DC for ANTHING AT ALL. If they cannot get in on the ‘perks’ they will self deport from these jobs, again, unless they WANT to be there. And they can be more closely monitored by constituents for crony/illegal activities.

Get the TEA candidates to campaign on
that and watch the wins rack up.

Gee, the Feds can surround a mere rancher, why can’t the republicans take Holder, Lerner, Clinton, etc and throw them all in jail where they belong?

Oh yeah, because they’re afraid to enforce our constitution against those who would destroy it!

Ex Post Facto laws have repeatedly been upheld by the courts, the Constitution notwithstanding. Look at the Lautenburg anti-gun amendment, for example. Now, this is particularly true for civil affairs, such as retroactive income tax law changes. Contempt of Congress would be considered civil, not criminal, although it SHOULD be criminal.

An election year with plenty of conservative challengers to incumbents like John Boehner in the May 6th primary in Ohio.

Election year grandstanding legislation that goes nowhere significant.

Legislation wouldn’t make it in the end with the Senate blocking it.

Legislation is proposed for show all the time by politicians at all levels.

"Obama will never sign it. Sure it’s feel good, but it is also cover to allow them to avoid exercizing the real constitutional power they DO have to arrest him and Lois.

THAT would accomplish something other than feel good."

Would this not fall under the heading of appropriations, which do not require obama's signature? Correct me if I am wrong.

Not sure but it wouldn’t matter in the end. He just signs an exec order or a pardon absolving them of whatever they did. But if he did the same after congress exercised their power of arrest, it would be a straight shot to the USSC over the separation of powers issue and more importantly, to every campaign commercial that had anyone with enough will to win to exploit it.

People may get confused over the rest, but I think there’s enough brains left out there to see a pardon after an actual arrest, with no trial... as ‘iffy’ at best. REGARDLESS of how the USSC would rule on it.

And today does law really mater to the public? As long as a ‘sale’ can be made on an issue, they are OK with damn near anything. But it still is up to someone that would be willing to MAKE that sale, even though it is ‘legal’.

Ex post facto

I'm willing to bet that the country's most prominent constitutional scholar can't explain that term in a way that makes sense or matches the actual meeting.

Enough talk & writing “bills.” These b*stards in Congress need to DO something about this vast corruption & lawlessness in DC already! The US is a sinking ship & these b*stards won’t stop it!

You mean they can actually stop funding?

I didn’t know that.

Too bad they didn’t consider using this approach to neuter Socialist Medicine (AKA the ACA).

Too little, too late and nothing more than election-year BS, RINO scumbags.
