Gas Prices Hit 13-Month Highs, Prompt Macro Concerns
zero hedge ^ | 4/20/14 | tyler durden

At $3.67, US Regular gasoline prices are their highest since March 2013 having risen over 12% (40c) in the last 2 months. This must be great news, right? It must mean world demand is picking up and driving up prices of crude oil as global trade soars (amid a collapsing Baltic Dry and decelerating Chinese growth). This can't be related to "war premia" right? - as we noted here - because stocks (which always know best) have discounted all this tomfoolery. However, as the following chart shows, each time gas prices have surged up toards the Maginot Line of $3.80, US macro-economic fundamentals have collapsed... the only problem is, this time is different - because macro data is already weak going in (and expectations for the post-weather pop are high).

Higher than that on the west coast.

As I mentioned before, the “recovery” never happened. The Protection Racket did. Extortion-Care cemented it.

I remember Chris Matthews raising hell about the gas prices under Bush every single night. I wish we had gas prices under Bush. This is a killer with 5 drivers in my family.

Makes me mad that no one on the news talks about this at all. Guess they all get in chauffeured cars and don’t have to worry about it.

Yup, I just finished spit polishing the 35 dollar goldwing. They say that thing should do 40-50 MPG if I am not hard on it.. I've put 150 miles on it already, still have a hair under half a tank. Not sure how much it holds (to lazy to look it up) but it can't be much. (5 maybe 6 gallons?) This is Minnesota though. Can't ride year round :( This is how she looked when I got her home from the auction... photo 2014-03-23155114.jpg

We are lucky in being within 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 hours drive from quite a few nice camping locations and such in the hills in the Nat’l Forest (plus some State Parks) near us. Some are right on lakes, so we can put the canoe on top of the (Subaru) Outback and have a great little adventure. A little further away is even more.

Sure, there’s nothing ‘round here with the majesty of, say, Yosemite, or the Redwoods, which I got to experience as a kid, but that was a one time deal, and the rest of the time we were in... Kansas... Hopefully the savings from some “local” summers will allow us to take a trip out West someday for our daughter.

Maybe it’s just being in a rural area - our most local TV station reports on gas prices every week.

As the price of gasoline goes up, the price of food—especially meat—is also going up. As the Big Government Nannies cluck their tongues thinking this will finally drive Americans into mass transit, their ideological blindness is setting our nation on a train ride to disaster. With the price of gasoline also goes the cost of everything. Inflation is not our friend, it is our destroyer.

My business is manufacturing.

The cost of freight (both in receiving and shipping out) is becoming a major factor in the pricing of my products.

When the price of fuel (both ground or air freight) rises, I have to raise the price of my products accordingly. The commercial retailers and distributor of my products in turn, have to mark their prices accordingly.

So, Obama thinks we need higher prices? Well, he is getting what he wants.

$3.49 here, 11 miles down the road $3.38. Sure it will rise with summer driving. We are using Kroger’s gift cards that give you gas points, so far double the amount up to 4/22 they are 4 times the points, this includes eatery gift cards, to pay for the new windows we had Lowe’s put in, to replace the drafty old ones. This is a 12 yr old house that had insufficient energy windows. The house inspector missed the NO So-fit vents too. Have $1.00 off a gallon for 2 tanks of gas up to 35 gals for this month and next.

Seniors are using coupons, they never used in their lives. You can tell, they are bewilder about them. Old hands at using them are not.

That's a good catch. GW is an excellent road bike. I see lots of them around Pocatello. The wind protection is great for our 75 MPH freeway rides.

I’m a little worried about wind protection on it to be honest.. I put 50 miles on it yesterday. T-shirt and jeans, air temp was 71 with the sun out.

I was sweating on the darn thing. I’d like a little more wind with my ride please.
