A Gun Graphic that Will Depress Your Leftist Friends
Townhall.com ^ | April 21, 2014 | Daniel J. Mitchell

It’s easy to get discouraged if you believe in small government and individual liberty.

It seems that the burden of the public sector is always expanding and that politicians and bureaucrats are always figuring out new ways to restrict our freedoms.

But let’s not lose hope.

We still have a lot of economic liberty, particularly if you count non-fiscal policy factors.

And we still have the Second Amendment.

Heck, we don’t just have the right to keep and bear arms, we exercise that right in massive numbers.

Take a look at this impressive graphic. We’re #1 in some bad ways, but it seems we’re also #1 in a very good way.

Make sure to share this graphic with your statist friends and colleagues. It’s guaranteed to put them in a glum mood for the rest of the day!

And when you share this with your misguided acquaintances, ask them why guns don’t cause murder in nations such as Switzerland and Finland. Maybe you’ll have a breakthrough and they’ll confess that gun control isn’t the solution.

Incidentally, in addition to having lots of guns in America, we also are quite ready to defy the government if politicians try to take them away.

What’s happening in Connecticut is merely one example of this wonderful form of civil disobedience.

Since we’re on the topic of gun ownership vs. gun control, here’s another image that will cause heartburn for your leftist friends.

Schindler guns

Same theme as the 4th image in this post.

And let’s not forget the best-ever poster on gun control.

Last but not least, here’s a poster sent to me by the PotL.

It’s the same message found at the top of this post and at the bottom of this post.

In a good month US gun sales approach 5 million.

The definition may vary, by a generous estimate there are roughly 2.3 million sworn peace officers in the US. For the sake of argument let’s assume they all get paid bi-weekly.

Therefore...every time a cop cashes a paycheck, a private citizen buys a gun.

in the U.S. because there are MANY gun owners who own much more than one gun per family member.

Does that include FReepers who foolishly stood up in their canoes while in deep water? :-)

That sort of begs the philosophical question - if one's guns are at the bottom of a deep body of water, does one still own them? Who possesses salvage rights?

“Is the statistic per capita or is it the percentage of citizens who own a gun (many own more than one). If it is number of guns per capita you can’t say “gun ownership” rate.”

Correct. I own 100+ firearms probably.

Well, there's a problem there. So many have sunk that sooner or later they're gonna break the surface of the water and then you got an island. Different set of laws altogether. I wish my fellow FReepers would take some boating classes.

“I’d say the actual numbers are way up, and that self-reported numbers are down since 2008. This graphic shows a decline in ownership overall in both individuals and households from 2008 to 2010. Given what we know and have seen since then, I’d say these graphs are bunk. Especially since they come from the VPC.”

Very possibly true. I certainly never admit to firearm ownership outside of this (presumably) anon forum.

But the point stands that “firearms per capita” does not equate to “percentage of households with firearms.”

every time I see comments about the "boating accidents", it irritates me to no end.

When the time comes that someone needs to use that line, the time has come to use the guns!

Agree. I don’t even like to be in their company; they make me feel uncomfortable.

Can only get rid of that feeling by taking a shower.

Your chart is from an anti-gun propaganda org website.

They claim only 20% of the population own guns. Even liberals would cringe at BS numbers like that.

Your reading comprehension is limited, huh?

Read the above-post:

“Very possibly true [that the chart is B.S.]. I certainly never admit to firearm ownership outside of this (presumably) anon forum.

But the point stands that “firearms per capita” does not equate to “percentage of households with firearms.””

Glenn Beck seems to be agreeing that the best data has USA Household firearm ownership somewhere in the ~30%

My comprehension is just fine. The 20% gun ownership rate is anti-gun propaganda.

To: Kaslin; All

Some folks need to go back and read the truth behind Schindler’s Jews back in the day...

It goes back to what some of the Jews did in Warsaw, that kept the German forces occupied with pacification in those areas that was eventually tabulated as a success...

Sure, people lost their lives, but they fought back...And it really made an impact on the occupiers...

Same thing with the Schindler operations...Some of those Jews were armed...Yes, they still worked for the German war effort, but they were able to stave off much of the efforts to round them up and ship them off to the camps for extermination...

The screenplay is somewhat factual, but it leaves out a few details...I believe Spielberg wanted to concentrate on the Jewish side of the story more than the Schindler side of it in the film...

Isn’t funny how bed wetting hoplophobes who worry about guns being stolen from ordinary people don’t care about gun being stolen from the police and the military?

Add in the guns that were stolen or lost in boating accidents.

The author’s message is not completely clear to me.

If I understand correctly, because Switzerland has a lot of guns, but a lower murder rate than the USA, guns don’t cause murders, people cause murders.

One problem with that:

America has about twice as many guns as Switzerland.

However, white people in America commit gun murders about twice as often as white people in Switzerland commit gun murders.

Twice as many guns.

Twice as many white gun murderers.

Yes, I agree, correlation is NOT causation.

Still, it is hard to ignore those two numbers as just a coincidence.

The only person saying 20% is you.

The libtards and Glenn Beck are saying 32%.

Is Beck part of the propaganda machine?
