Almost any number of men can be killed in combat, without affecting the population of the next generation.

I could be wrong, but I sense this particular woman will not reproduce.

During the Paraguayan War, about same time as our Civil War, the Paragyans attempted to fight Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina.

Something like 90% of military age Paraguayan males were killed, as well as a lot of women and children. But it didn’t wipe out the nation.

There have been persistent rumors ever since that the Church secretly aquiesced in polygamy in the aftermath of the war.
