Rancher Cliven Bundy decided to lecture his supporters on slavery and the “negro” on Saturday. Media Matters posted the video:

Dude?

The Washington Post posted his comments:

“I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro,” he said. Mr. Bundy recalled driving past a public-housing project in North Las Vegas, “and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids — and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch — they didn’t have nothing to do. They didn’t have nothing for their kids to do. They didn’t have nothing for their young girls to do.

“And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do?” he asked. “They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn’t get no more freedom. They got less freedom.”

So all of a sudden he’s a pariah because he has a different opinion?

Whatever happened to “I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it”?

Bundy's grazing contract expired in 1992. In 1989, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service had declared the desert tortoise an endangered species.

The new grazing contract offered Bundy had an increased AUM grazing fee in accordance with federal grazing rates for 1993, rates that were still subsidized and a quarter or less of private grazing rates.

The new grazing contract also limited the number of livestock that Bundy could graze on the old Bunkerville allotment to 150 because of the 'endangered species,' while Bundy was then grazing approximately 900 cattle on the allotment.

Bundy refused to sign the grazing agreement. He sent Clark County a payment for grazing eighteen cattle for a year at the BLM grazing rate. Clark County refused the payment on the grounds that the land was federal land.

he moves somewhere else.

Well, Bundy has and hasn't. He's still grazing on the old Bunkerville allotment, but is also grazing on new property, included developed areas within the National Park Service's Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

On the sole issue that had federal Govt agents illegally aiming guns at citizens over a contested land dispute yes hes still innocent. No matter how bigoted, homophobic, sexist, double parking the citizen may be - He is still deserving of all Americans’ support over the Federal abuse.

Are you familiar with the WHOLE story? How Bundy determined who it was that he actually owed the money to - and it wasnt the feds - and then he sent the money there ? etc etc etc

If the Texas lawyers can't take care of it in three years

It's Nevada, not Texas

----

Not federal property?

You do realize federal property isn't OWNED by the government, don't you? It's held in delegated trust.

-----

The feds are doing their job and Bundy is getting out of paying for grazing on land that he doesn't own.

Seriously? Do you realize that by 'doing their job' they've manipulated the Terms and Conditions of the grazing contract to the point Bundy would lose ALL the rights to his water by being forced to reduce his herd to a number LOWER than stipulated in his deed should he comply?

Some people call it "A Rock and a Hard Place"

The Founders called it Impairment of Obligation of Contract, and made it Unconstitutional under Article 1, Section 10, Clause 1 .

Bills of attainder, ex post facto laws, and laws impairing the obligation of contracts, are contrary to the first principles of the social compact, and to every principle of sound legislation.

It was a land grab and 53 other ranchers succumbed to the change and are gone.

Is it possible that some ranchers may have succumbed to the growth of Las Vegas (the second-fastest growing metropolitan area during the 2000s)?

It's amazing what people do when a real estate developer shows up with cash.

So, slavery “might not have been that bad” huh? And you’re equating slavery with being in prison? Where one is a choice and one is not?

Keep digging....

But the fact is that a lot of people are going to turn against him because of that stupid, unneccessary speech.
I supported him because I love it when people band together to stick a thumb into the Fed’s eye. I still support his cause, but he’s an idiot for saying that. Keep it about the issue and not pontificate on things that are not part of it.

I don't think it's because it's all that different. There is just a few on Free Republic that are easily cowed by the leftist media label slingers.

Honestly, I've read stupider things from smarter folks right here on Free Republic.

Bundy is undoubtedly a good rancher, but naive, unsophisticated and very ignorant of the ways of the larger world, namely the political attack-dog world.

I would hold my breath every time he was put on camera...he was always closely edging on disaster with his short clips on TV....but he escaped.

This time he expounded at length, and he didn't escape.

He blew the whole gift placed right in his hands.....and in OUR hands. I want to commit hairy-scary, dang it all!

YET here you are AGAIN with absolutely NOTHING better to do in your pathetic life than to keep after someone you don't like. How very, very sad.

You really ought to seek some help with this obsession you have with a stranger on a website.

You WILL respond to this because this is all you have. Nothing but anger, hatred and insult. Come on, o damaged one, keep up your insane obsession.

My guess is “because he’s a blowhard who loves the sound of his own voice.” Why else would he venture into “negro” territory when that had nothing at all to do with why he is in the news?

Not really.

Tone deaf, yes.

Repugnant, yes to a point.

But hardly despicable.
