I do a lot of behavioral rehab and work with dogs and hang out with some who are solid behaviorists. Most dogs hate being hugged but tolerate it. Nonetheless under the right circumstances any dog will bite you with enough stressors.

dog behavioralist teaching

dogs don’t make “ventral/ventral” contact (chest to chest, belly to belly) like primates do when they are nursing, and thus don’t develop a positive association between ventral/ventral contact and feeling nurtured and loved

Don’t put your face in a dogs face and don’t your head over a dogs head.
