At scene of Nevada ranch standoff, 'citizen soldiers' are on guard

BUNKERVILLE, Nev. — The first thing you see on the drive to Cliven Bundy's ranch are the American flags — tied to roadside guardrails, flapping in a hard desert wind.

At a bend in state Route 170 sits the so-called Patriot Checkpoint, evidence of the tense power play raging between the rebellious 67-year-old cattleman and the federal government.

Then there are the guns. Scores of grim citizen militiamen in combat fatigues — semiautomatic weapons slung over their shoulders, ammunition magazines at their belts — patrol from a base they call Camp Tripwire.

"State sovereignty is what we're fighting for," reads a sign strung to a fence. And another: "The West has now been won!"

Bundy's private war, a decades-long court battle with the Bureau of Land Management over his cattle grazing on public land, recently took a decidedly populist turn: When armed federal agents moved to oversee the roundup of hundreds of Bundy's cattle across half a million acres managed by the BLM, some Americans sat up wide-eyed before their televisions and computer screens.

The government says that Bundy owes $1 million in fees for letting his cattle graze in the Gold Butte area. Still, the get-tough tactic became a clarion call for those who see the federal government as arrogant and bloated. Suddenly, truck drivers, pizza deliverymen and ex-cops from as far away as New Hampshire and Georgia converged upon this unincorporated ranching town...

Shouldn’t that have read “racist domestic terrorists” are on guard?

Source considered. Bundy’s War is a perfect starting point. Federal overreach and post-constitutional bureaucratic tyranny is the problem. Nothing illustrates this crisis better than hundreds of overdressed federal agents... herding cattle to save turtles. The fur needs to fly.

“Bob Abbey, a former BLM director, said public angst goes beyond Bundy. “I do think there is a segment of our population in the United States that feels disenfranchised,” he said.

But, he added, “Mr. Bundy is not a victim by any means.”

If the shooting does start I hope Neil Kornze is one of the first casualties. Target the people who give the orders!

And, if course, no mention by the LA Times of the selective editing of Bundy’s statement that was done by the NYT for maximum negative effect. First tent to fold? Glenn Beck.

On the one hand I have to say God bless and protect these patriots.

On the other hand if the governor, sheriff and other state officials understood their what their role is and had to courage to actually do it these citizen soldiers wouldn’t need to be there.

As I have said, if the war goes hot, the generals are not immune from its prosecution.

Now the Governor and Sheriff is just another cog in the Federal Machine. Lest they lose their “Federal Dollars”. They traded their souls for those “Federal Dollars” long ago.

Sad. I would think that being an elected governor of a sovereign state would mean something. But they wish to be a cog in a greater machine, slaves to a federal master. Each state could be free, but apparently the state governments do not wish to be free.

Beck made a damn fool of himself. He is off his rocker for even reading the NYT and not understand the NYT is a part of a King Obama communists club.

I think the locals learned their lesson from the Elian Gonzalez episode. This time they’re armed. What I don’t understand is why there wasn’t any WANTED posters + pictures in the local newspapers immediately afterward. As I remember the cowardly driver wore a mask. Press would not have sold the advertising.

I’m watching “The Last Cowboy” on Hallmark Channel with my sick son. So many similarities with Bundy. Makes my heart hurt.

If Beck had any sense he would start broadcasting from there. Then he could say anything he wanted.

Especially when the new Ford trucks that cost about $65,000 are driven by BLM people over the burrows filled with turtle eggs!!!
