For gay and lesbian parents, equality is a myth when it comes to custody cases
The Guardian (UK) ^ | 21 April 2014 | Steven W Thrasher

Posted on 04/26/2014 2:03:04 PM PDT by Salman

A protracted child custody battle that allows a judge and a psychologist to determine whether you are friend or foe to your kids is every divorcing parent's nightmare. But for some gay and lesbian parents, that nightmare is a reality – and the deciding factor is too often the very fact of their sexuality.

That fear remains even when the law is supposed to protect gay parents. A friend – a gay dad in Texas – recently told me about his journey after he and his ex-wife had a legal agreement for 50-50 custody of their three children. But when his ex-wife decided to move far away and wanted to give him alternate weekend visits, "which she had no right to do," a lawyer bluntly told my friend:

You're in Texas. She's a straight female ... you're a single gay man ... you have to go on offense, just to keep the 50-50 time you already have with your kids.
He did, and it was extremely costly. But millions of gay and lesbian parents – those living in the 33 states without marriage equality and even those in states with – don't have the economic means to constantly battle the implicit and explicit discrimination they face to prove what social science already knows: that their sexuality shouldn't be a factor in determining their fitness as parents.

The Guardian is upset at some residual sanity in the USA.

Homosexuals should not be allowed anywhere near children.

Crimea a river. Why shouldn’t it be a factor in assessing the future psychological well-being of the child?

Just a little editing to make the statement factual.

‘millions of gay and lesbian parents’

That statement is a lie on it’s face. There are not millions of gay and lesbian parents. There many be one million in the US and that would be high.

What there are is a sub culture of around 6 million gays and lesbians in the entire country and that number is probably high. 2% of 300 million. Of those there are certainly NOT more than 20% who have procreated since their p[referred method of sex is by nature non-procreative.

And how did he make those kids? by definition, he is not an ‘extinctionist’ man... Unless they’re used a turkey baster!

And how is this any different from how men are normally treated?

That poor woman. Married to a man who was either hid his homosexuality when he married her and fathered the children....or...has succumbed to the depraved sexual habits accepted by the perverted influence that surrounds us.

Who is going to explain the ‘birds and bees’ to the pre-pubescent children?

My God - I’m so terrified for my toddler grandchildren.

“that their sexuality shouldn’t be a factor in determining their fitness as parents.”

Lets just ignore all the studies! yay! Kids with homosexual parents end up far worse than those with heterosexual parents. Fact.

Equality is what the French did in their bloody revolution, killing everybody who didn’t agree with them. Created Equal is what we have here in the US, and it is very different indeed. Whining won’t change the Constitution, and Amen to that.

From the photo caption in the article: Though the best evidence shows having gay or lesbian parents has no effect on children, many judges rule against them in custody cases.

This is BS.

Pray tell AP: What qualifies your "news" organization to decide what constitutes said "best evidence" when the largest peer-reviewed studies ever conducted on the topic show markedly otherwise?

Libertarianism.

1.3 Personal Relationships
Sexual orientation, preference, gender, or gender identity should have no impact on the government’s treatment of individuals, such as in current marriage, “child custody”, adoption, immigration or military service laws.

She had every right to do. She’s not married to him anymore, he left her. She has the right to choose where she lives. If he did not like that idea he should have chosen not to be gay and stayed married to her till the kids grew up. No he was the selfish one. He choose his sex life over the life of his children. So let her move to where ever she deems fit and I pray she finds a better husband.
