Isn’t it odd for the president to wade into this controversy? Is this a matter of such import that the president himself must weigh in????

Any president or this one? There’s a difference.

This is the funniest thing to happen in some time. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. No wonder he didn’t want them invited.

Yeah, he's too busy getting grilled about "if he's diggin' the ice cream" and "is he getting enough sleep" to start messing in this sort of stuff.

Jeesuz, I wish he'd go away.

He was apparently asked about it, so offered up an answer, and I have to give him some credit. His statement, “When ignorant folks want to advertise their ignorance, you don’t really have to do anything, you just let them talk. That’s what happened here,” is a pretty good defense of free speech.

I only wish he and about 150 million other Americans ACTUALLY MEANT IT when they said they support free speech instead of the usual, “I support free speech, as long as I agree with it.”

Ted Koppell — of all people! — commented back in the ‘80s that the concept of free speech wasn’t devised to protect popular opinions — those are protected by their very nature — but unpopular ones. That always stuck with me, and it sure is appropriate these days.

He’ll weigh in on anything that he can use for a slight bump in the polls. Notice however the measured tones and careful wording? Had this been a prominent conservative, say Rush can you imagine how he would have played it?

“Isn’t it odd for the president to wade into this controversy?”

He thought the guy was a Republican. ‘Looks like we got the last laugh here.
