Greenpeace sails out to confront Russian tanker

AMSTERDAM (AP) — Greenpeace International says it is sending a ship out to protest the arrival of a tanker that is bringing the first oil produced at a new Russian offshore platform in the Arctic circle to Rotterdam.

The environmental group said Monday it has sent the "Rainbow Warrior III" to meet the Russian-flagged Mikhail Ulyanov. Greenpeace spokesman Arin de Hoog could not immediately say Monday when the two vessels are expected to meet and what form the protest will take.

In September, 28 of the group's activists and two freelance journalists were arrested and charged with piracy after a protest near Gazprom's Prirazlomnaya platform. They were released in the run-up to the Winter Olympics in Sochi earlier this year. Their ship "Arctic Sunrise" was seized and is still held by Russian authorities.

So to protest a ship carrying oil, they will meet the ship in a boat which runs on oil?

I marvel at the stupidity of a liberal. It is stunning.

Russia is on war footing. In a resource war. And Greenpeace thinks it’s going to stop a Russian ship full of what the war is over...REALLY?? REALLY???

Just sink them and free up their carbon footprint for intelligent human life.

I wonder if this is strictly environmental or if it has something to do with the Ukraine situation. Incidentally, I just read today that the Crimea gets 80% of its electricity and water from Ukraine.

I am guessing that Russia will certainly say it has something to do with the Ukraine situation. If it has crossed our mind you know Russia will think it with more certainty. Really stupid of Greenpeace...really, really stupid.

Its the first shipload of oil from the Russian Deep Sea Arctic platform. The same platform that Greenpeace attacked last year.

Russia considers these kinds of actions to be open piracy, and responds accordingly.

They are so brave. Meeting this ship in Holland instead of in the waters of those pansy Russians.

not that they were ever ‘normal’ but long ago they were taken over by the whack job fringe. Their founder was ousted and they became an enforcement arm of the lib agenda, much like the Animal Liberation Front, the Earth Liberation Front ect.

They are funded through the Tides Foundation and groups like Sierra Club who are every bit as radical but act as the moderate face.

what you have to understand, people in general have to understand, is that they are literally insane. they believe all the crazy things people laugh about like ‘man is a cancer on the face of the world.’

They do really think that genocide is an option if it saves Gaia. They do think they can sail a fishing boat into Russian military areas and their presence will stop whatever because they really think that world opinion on green matters and the MSM influence will always save them.

And if they lose a few boats, Tides and Sierra will fund new ones. The people sailing them will just be absorbed back into Gaia and all is well.

I am not kidding. Hopefully that will help you understand them better. I researched and wrote multiple articles about the most radical greens over the years. And trust me when I say they really are that crazy.

Voluntary Human Extinction Movement, worship of feces, drinking urine as a beauty and longevity aid...the depth people just refuse to believe. But it’s all true and all real.

Good point: they will meet in Holland. In case Putin opens up another can of whupass, the poor Greenies can call for help from the Dutch pacifists.Kinda hard to hold onto a cell phone while capsizing.

I wonder if they know a tanker can’t stop or turn on a dime.
