If a reporter agrees that a conversation or event is off-the-record, then of course he cannot print what was said during that interchange...I seem to remember Connie Chung telling Newt Gingriche’s Ma’s answer would be off the record and asking Ma what her son thinks of Hillary. Ma’s answer was “She’s a bitch.” That was played on every nightly newscast for a week WITH THE “THIS IS OFF RECORD.” stipulation part of the newscast.

I am not ‘sure’ she even said that.
I thought it was more like ‘It rhymes with “Witch”’? And Chung put the finishing touches on it.

Chung definitely ‘assured’ her that it was ‘just between you and me’, ‘off the record’ BUT wasn’t it on a show similar (in concept) to 60 minutes or even like todays daytime gabfests but in ‘prime time’?

Mrs G was definitely ‘sand bagged’ and of course C Chung never had to ‘pay the price’ that say a Limbaugh or such if they had used the term ‘off the record’ then played it the next day....
