It wouldn’t surprise me if the administration turned over altered emails so they could present the originals down the road to “prove” tampering by the Repubs.
I would suspect that’s the case. As long as the person who received the documents can prove the chain of custody (that is, that they came directly from the WH after the court order and were never altered), I think this is going to look worse for the WH than anybody else.
In other words, the WH issued a “massaged” version of the documents.
