This is making me want to be sick. I’m heartbroken for the guy who did this and the kid’s family, what should of been a quick educational session turned into something worse than I can imagine. I’m heartbroken.
Sometimes stupid really does hurt, and this guy will remember that forever
I carry. I carry ALL the time. My kids know I have rifles but they have never seen any of my handguns. My grandchildren don't even know I have guns. Until I take them out shooting after learning about guns they won't.
I carry loaded and chambered but I would never show the gun to a kid. When I show any of my guns to friends that also carry I unload and unchamber and lock the slide open and STILL treat it as loaded.
A gun is only as safe as the operator.
I recommend to just about everyone:
1. Conceal carry
2. get a gun light enough and small enough that you won't mind carrying.
3. Once you carry don't ever not carry, that is when you will be needed.
4. Practice, practice, practice. It may be overkill but I don't like to go more than two weeks without practice.
5. Carry personal defense rounds, (Hollow Points), for safety. Never let a bullet go through anything to hit someone else.
6. Get a gun safe.
I don't normally have kids around but even when I don't I keep my carry gun up high on closet shelf when I go to bed. I'm not dressed in the morning until I have my gun on. I have respectful fear of my gun but I would have more fear without it.
Guns like gasoline, cars, power tools and many other things are potentially killers and deserve a lot of respect.
