I am Asian, and was raised in an Asian family. These values are ingrained in us at a young age: respect for elders, and that education and hard work are highly highly valued. As my grandmother would say "You must study hard, all the time, no exceptions."

When you've heard that from your Kindergarten days, what does one expect?

With the exception of the early ancestors in our home country, college attendance for the last four generations is/was 100%. Of those, folks in my family with post-graduate degrees probably stands at about 90%. My grandmother is one of fifteen kids, so that is a lot of educated people.
