JONATHAN: WE MUST BRING BACK ABDUCTED GIRLS
Written by Isiaka Wakili, Abuja Hits: 2821 President Goodluck Jonathan again talked tough this afternoon over the abduction of over 200 schoolgirls of Chibok, Borno State, saying "we must bring back our daughters".
The president said this at the State House in Abuja while inaugurating the presidential committee on the rescue of the abducted girls.
Jonathan said this was not a committee that brings joy to him or to the nation, noting that it was just a necessary step to secure the release of the missing schoolgirls.
He also stressed that the committee was neither a judicial committee nor an administrative panel of inquiry set up to investigate the abduction as such "is the responsibility of the state, not the federal government".
Responding, the chairman of the committee, Brig. General Ibrahim A. Sabo(Rtd.) said his team would carry out their assignment with fear of God.
The committee has the mandate to liaise with the Borno State government and establish the circumstances leading to the school remaining open for boarding students when other schools were closed; to liaise with relevant authorities and the parents of the missing girls to establish the actual number and identities ofthe girls abducted; to interface with the Security Services and Borno State Government to ascertain how many of the missing girls have returned; to mobilise the surrounding communities and the general public on citizen support for a rescue strategy and operation; to articulate a framework for a multi-stakeholder action for the rescue of the missing girls; and to advise Government on any matter incidental to the terms of reference.
Members of the committee are Barrister Femi Falana, Hajia HawaIbrahim,Hajia FatimaKwaku, two representatives of National Council of Women Societies (NCWS).
Others are 2 representatives of the Nigeria Police, 2 representatives of the State Security Service, 2 representatives of the Nigerian Army, 2 representatives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), 1 Representative of the Federal Ministry of Information (who shall be the Committees Spokesperson), 1 Representative of the Federal Ministry of Justice, 3 Representatives of Borno State Government (two of whom, preferably, shall be women), 1 Representative of the United Nations, 1 Representative of ECOWAS (who shall be a woman), Permanent Secretary (Special Services Office)OSGF as Secretary.
Good luck, Jonathan.
I’m going to send an e-mail to my good friend who is a Nigerian General, to help with this. He’s promised me a share of his $35 million fortune that is stuck in a Swiss Bank account.
If you appoint a committee, you’re not serious. Unless the only member is Chuck Norris.
Sorry to be so evil but ya know what?
My first instinct is that OBAMA arranged all this.
Yep. It grabs headlines —HE benefits.
I’m crazy..?
5 years ago if you’d have said the BATF guys would ACTIVELY EXPORT machine-guns to Narco-kingpins specifically to generate grisly mass-murder headlines I’d have called out the butterfly-net guys on you.
SORRY BUT I LEARN FROM HISTORY.
Goodluck with all that.
When they get done there will be no need for a judicial process.
Rules of engagement, find, engage, pursue, and eliminate those who kidnapped the girls. Rescue the girls using all necessary assets. Period.
Lots of luck, Goodluck!
Yes, this is one area where US Aid could really do some good and win the hearts and minds of millions of people from Africa’s most populous country. The muzzies in the North are every bit as bad as the Taliban.
I am hard pressed to think of a President who has done less for Africa than Obama. Ironic, seeing as his father was African.
Well his father was a West hating Marxist, and several of his Kenyan family members are Islamics. I suspect Obama's sympathies lie with the kidnappers. He will never admit it, but I don't expect to see our resources being used to help. I hope I am proved wrong (maybe the positive PR will overrule his natural affinity for the Islamic terrorists).
Actually, he did a lot for Kenya: he expatriated.
By the time the bureaucrats get organized itll be too late. The girls will have been sold and scattered all over the Muslim world.
