Jeb Bush: I Would Govern Like Lyndon Johnson as President
Breitbart ^ | 15 Feb 2013 | Tony Lee

Posted on 05/15/2014 2:03:41 PM PDT by george76

Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush said he would strive to be like Lyndon Johnson, the Democrat famous for expanding the U.S. welfare state through the "Great Society," if he were elected president.

According to the Miami Herald, Bush made those comments Wednesday night in San Antonio, Florida at Saint Leo University, while speaking about education, immigration, and energy policy.

Bush did not address Johnson's Great Society and War on Poverty programs, about which Ronald Reagan once famously quipped, "We had a war on poverty, and poverty won."

He was talking about leadership style, about the level of presidential activity and engagement.

He wasn't endorsing Johnson's policies. He read a biography that touched on Johnson's energy and drive and says he'd be like that, too.

I don't think Bush would be that way and I'm not sure it would be a good thing if he were, but whoever wrote the headline distorted what he actually said.

Thanks for the insight.

Let’s agree, for the sake of argument, that’s what Jeb meant. Nevertheless, his remark shows hopeless political bad judgment. It’s just about as bad as if he were proposing expansion of the Interstate highway system and said he wanted to do as well as Hitler did when he supported the construction of the Autobahn.

He also said this: “Bush, who has a book on comprehensive immigration reform due out next month, said it was “un-American” to have illegal immigrants living in fear of exposure.
“To me — and I’m here at this great Catholic institution and this is what my church teaches me — it is completely un-American to require people living in the shadows,” he declared. “

Jeb says that as if we should admire it. We already had a Republican Jimmy Carter with his brother, we don’t need a Republican Lyndon Johnson.

Evidence for that?

Bush's great-grandfather was a Democrat, but most of the people who'd make the charge you did probably have Democratic ancestors closer to home.

Go away Jeb, you don't have a prayer of being elected.
W left office with the liberals loudly berating him, they'll never vote for you.
And today the Republican base is fed up with RINOs and you'll get little support from the right.

Thank You Colonel.

Arguably the most Damaging President of the 20th Century (his only competition is Woodrow Wilson and FDR)

And Jeb Bush wants to be like him.

What’s wrong with him? He’s just a common liberal so all the standard explanations apply.

The real question is what is wrong with the right wingers who will go to the polls and vote for him and what is wrong with all his little online helpers pushing ‘lesser evils’.

THAT is the question that actual conservatives better damn well start asking before he gains any traction.

...and what is wrong with all his little online helpers pushing ‘lesser evils’.

I wouldn't call a Republican presidential candidate who wished to emulate Lyndon Baines Johnson a "lesser evil".

In LBJ, we're talking some big-time major, large economy size "evil".

Nor would I really. But then I wouldn’t call Mitt Romney lesser evil with his record either and plenty of his little helpers did exactly that when they pushed conservatives to accept and vote for him.

Stevie Wonder can see what’s coming here with Jeb. And in another year, the talking points will fly fast and furious about how Jeb didn’t really mean he would govern like LBJ when he said it in May/2014. And if you don’t vote for him, you love Hillary and hate America. Because never has there been such an important election ever and once they are elected we will hold their feet to the fire.

Where all the liars who promised that with the GOP ‘lesser evils’ in 2012? Stop these people now before we repeat 2012.

Wasn’t content to let us assume he was stupid. He had to open his fly-catcher and prove it.
