As the embattled agency faces charges of record tampering and neglect of veterans, records reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon show the VA has not neglected upgrading and decorating its offices throughout the country.
The VA has spent a total of $489 million to upgrade conference rooms, buy draperies, and purchase new office furniture during the past four-and-a-half years.
A total of 15,010 contracts were awarded solely for office furniture by the VA for Fiscal Years 2010 through 2014.

How much treatment could $500 million bought for the vets?
Government is the absolutely LEAST effictient way to do anything.
The only thing Government has going for it is economy of scale.
no penalty for waste. that leads to corruption. U award an order and something comes back your way. zero controls once the money is allocated.
I love how the press used the word embattled when it comes to administration/agency/official misdeeds getting questioned by anyone. It is as if they are trying engender support for an underdog and for agency push back (when the reality is they work for us.)
The word I never see them use for Lerner, the VA, Holder’s contempt of Congress etc. is....... Disgraceful.
I thought all office furniture was supposed to come from the Bureau of Prisons workshops?
I guess the new GOP appointees will have some nice furniture when we move in 2017.
dang that George Bush, he ruined this country real bad, so bad all the obama-king’s men can’t put it back together again
SARC
In the 80’s, dunno about now.
thanks
I can tell ya, the V.A. a mile from me has undergone a serious facelift, (for a campus that was already designated a historical site), meanwhile, yes, delay and delay and denial of benefit payments.
I will gladly give you a report, in the coming weeks, since my ‘time and temperature’ appointment, might become a little bit of a stay, according to what my non-American doctor decides.
(Yes! I have my own Dr. Boombahtz Amir Doegahtz! Shades of Mitch Miller!)
There is a cost for merely being present and keeping up infrastructure. Just tossing out a number and calling it ‘furniture and conference rooms’ tells us little. 500m over 5 years? Whats the tooth to tail ratio? How much is spent for patient care vs how much is spent on infrastructure?
I’m not letting the Administration off the hook on this. As a veteran myself I’m outraged. But the article tells us nothing, absolutely nothing.
Veterans Affairs and Death by Bureaucracy

There may finally be a scandal engulfing the Obama administration that even Democrats and their media collaborators cant obfuscate. What happened at the VA facility in Phoenix, AZ, where employees created two sets of waiting lists to make it seem patients were being treated in a timely mannerand as many as 40 veterans allegedly died while languishing on the secret listis an anomaly. Six more whistleblowers from around the nation have stepped forward, alleging the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) facilities they worked at also cooked the books.
The despicable subterfuge, allegedly occurring in at least seven VA Medical Centers in Arizona, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Texas, North Carolina and Illinois is as simple as it was heartless. The official waiting list is the one that ostensibly met the VAs policy, implemented by Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki in 2010. It set a 14-day time limit to provide care for a veteran making an initial application for an appointment. Yet by the agencys own admission, only 41 percent of new VA medical patients were seen within that period in 2013, down from 90 percent in 2012.
THE REST OF THE SCANDAL

Veterans Hospitals Death Panel Scandal Is a Preview of Life Under Obamacare.
The best example of how Obamacares death panels is going to work, is the scandal of the unknown number of veteran sentenced to death for being denied or delayed medical assistance by government bureaucracies of the V.A.
That was at a hospital in Ohio. Furnishings at Central Office in DC would undoubtedly cost twice as much.
I scarcely know how to address this non scandal !
May obie rot in hell SOON!
