Poll: Almost Half of Unemployed Have ‘Completely Given Up’ on Looking for Job
National Review ^ | 05/21/2014 | Andrew Johnson

Posted on 05/21/2014 10:31:51 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

A new survey finds that even though one out of two unemployed Americans are increasingly giving up on looking for a job, nearly all of them remain hopeful that they will find a job they “really want” in the next six months.

Forty-seven percent say they agree, to some degree, with the statement, “I’ve completely given up on looking for a job,” according to a new poll from Express Employment Professionals, the nation’s largest franchised staffing company.

That percentage closely mirrors the 46 percent of respondents who said there are no available jobs, as well as those who have not had a job interview in the past month. Meanwhile, one out of four (23 percent) said their most recent job interview was in 2012 or before.

Yet, despite the seemingly despairing situation, 91 percent are still confident they will find work by responding, “I’m hopeful that I will find a job I really want in the next six months.”

In almost all cases though, nearly or more than half of respondents are “not at all willing” to either relocate to a new city/town (44 percent) or state (60 percent), or to go back to school for training in new skills to make themselves more marketable (64 percent).

How about if they just find a job, maybe a job that they don't "really want" but a job that pays bills and keeps them off the dole?

Great! That means the number of “active unemployed” will go down under Obama!

And I do mean...

GO DOWN UNDER OBAMA!

Call CNN!

What percentage of jobs are unavailable due to illegal immigration? I realize many of the “unemployed” are too proud to lift a finger, but illegal immigration does have an impact on employment.

I am not on the dole. I have a double Bachelor of Science, I am a retired Naval Intelligence Officer. I have written cover letters to employers like Hertz to let them know I will work for 8.00 an hour, I will pick up cars and clients, I will make them feel they have had an exceptional customer service experience.

I never even rated an acknowledgement that I had applied.

We are in a steep sided shithole that gets more slippery by the day. The harder you claw the deeper you sink.

There are people who are users and takers. Everyone knows that. But there are still people who cannot find work for any amount of pay. College graduates, experienced leaders and managers, people with wisdom, lessons learned, a lifetime of knowledge in the workforce, what do they get?

No response.

Nothing. Do people give up? Sure they do. Have I? No.

I will never give up. I will not let these marxist bastards win.

I’d like to see some figures on how many people over fifty have lost their jobs because of the economy - layoffs, closures, etc. How many in that category who have roots in their community, own a home, have kids or grand kids and other family in town, friends, church and so forth, are going to sell out and move away for a job in the last ten years of their working life? Who in hell wants to go back to school and try to start a whole new career?

Mk key point was that the people that were polled state that they are waiting for the job that they “really want,” while you understand the reality of the economy and would be willing to take almost any job.

What do you have to offer if that's what they really want? Will you ask them to take "Any job at all, get on the dole if needed and ignore the bills you can't afford to pay? Don't worry about commuting costs and up-front expenditures which exceed the amount you will be paid?"

What we need to do is get rid of all wage and salary taxation, period. The costs of the tax systems exceed their benefits in terms of both quantifiable and non-quantifiable terms. They serve only to undermine freedom in the guise of social good.

I'm sure there are millions like me who are trying to do just that! Being on the dole as some say, what exactly is that? I would like to know, I was on UI which I paid into for over forty years without ever asking for a nickel, now my benefits not dole have expired and according to some on FR I am living the Life of Reilly trying figure out how to keep the lights and utilities on, food on the table for us let alone our four pawed children. I look and apply for work daily but there is always some reason I am not hired. " Thank you, we had over 200, 400, 700 applicants for this position and though you qualifications are good we chose someone who more fit our needs" AKA younger, cheaper, less White, etc. But what the hell I'm takin it easy no stress, no sweat, on the dole! Some people on this site are just plain ignorant of friggin reality.

I need to search for this, but here's a chart to show you HOW LONG it takes people of different age groups to find a job AFTER they get laid off...
