Big-voiced rocker Caleb Johnson is the season 13 “American Idol,” winning the title over teenage pop singer Jena Irene....

The two-hour finale included performances by John Legend, Kiss, Demi Lovato and Lady Antebellum. It also showcased a song by judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr., with judge-turned-mentor Randy Jackson joining in.

Even Seacrest took a turn crooning, proving as a singer he’s a great host. He was joined on Richard Marx’s “Right Here Waiting” by the singer-songwriter.

NBC’s singing contest “The Voice,” which leapfrogged “American Idol” in the ratings, has leaned heavily on its performer-coaches to boost audience interest.

The ratings for this show have sunk. Still, the media must really be upset at the winner.

I recall one year, the media and the show's producers had anointed the FLAMBOYANT Adam Lambert as the winner....but the voters didn't pick him. The sadness in the press was palpable.

Same here....a fat white guy wins, you can just tell it isn't their cup of tea.

Remember when that other straight white man, Clay Aiken, almost won.

I actually really enjoyed this season, although my personal favorite only came in 3rd.

I thought the talent was unusually good this year, and it really came down to more of which music genre you preferred than the talent of the particular artists.

A woman I went out when Idol was fairly new was an Idol fanatic.Intelligent...accomplished....but she still watched,AND VOTED! So that means that I had to watch it too.I could never see the entertainment value...or talent...in that show.I find those half hour long Vegimatic ads more entertaining.

Call me crazy, but I thought Paula Abdul was important to the show. In spite of her occasional irrational unhinged battiness, she seemed to bring out the best in the singers. She could go overboard with the praise, sure, but did a pretty good job edging talent forward, and recognizing potential.

And who beat Adam Lambert? A married Christian who leads worship at his church. That was a good one.

I thought they were all dead by now.

I surfed through the performance. They really, really need to hang it up. Paul Stanley's voice is shot.

They were good when I saw them 20-some years ago. Now, they should retire and be collecting royalties.

They played "Love Gun" and "Shout it out Loud". I asked Mrs WBill how many times she thought that they'd plyed those songs live. 1000? 5000? Forty years worth of shows, anyway.

The wife unit had American Idle on so I did my usual and gave the dogs a bath and cleaned the bathroom. Watching any of those type shows would make me go postal.

“I actually really enjoyed this season, although my personal favorite only came in 3rd.”

I thought this season, American Idol jumped the shark. Worst ever to our home.

“I thought the talent was unusually good this year, and it really came down to more of which music genre you preferred than the talent of the particular artists.”

Mostly mediocre talent compared to what happened at The Voice.

We must not have been watching the same show!

Not only that, but even at middle age, she’s still easy on the eyes too.

Like Caleb as a real rock and roller, but Jena is the real talent. Her performances showed a real musician with a pitch perfect voice. And she made every tune she sang into a version that this gal has the talent to make it sound fresh and new.
