One of my distant ancestors was enslaved by the natives back in the early 1600s.
So far the Wampanoag haven’t offered up any cash.
They should go after the Africans who sold their captives to the Arabs.
Heres the deal I would make them. the USA will give you 25 grand and a plane ticket back to Africa. You take the cash, you renounce your citizenship forever.
Take it or leave it. The Idea of reparations is to return things to the way it was before.
The government still owes my g.g.g.g.grandfather’s ancestors for the 100 acres- given to him by George III and taken by New York for the St. Lawrence Seaway. I figure it’s worth a couple of million dollars. I want reparations. ;-)
Oh the other side, they imprisoned my g.g.g.g.g.grandfather and took his farm for being on the wrong side of the Loyalist v. Revolutionary struggle. He got the farm back though when all of the neighbors refused to bid on his land. The family suffered while he was in prison in NY.
Blacks have convinced themselves that they, and they alone, suffered injustice while all whites prospered without a struggle. They ignore the role their fellow blacks played in enslaving their brothers. They ignore the fact that thousands of blacks were slave owners.
I have a distant ancestor who was a freed slave.
Where do I go to pick up my reparations?
And I am so white I look like a ghost.
I am also about 1/16th Cherokee
