No, it is a lot cheaper than Myrtle or even Virginia Beach or Ocean City. I live 30 minutes from Virginia Beach and will not go even for the day. Went to Hilton Head in mid-June once. Was definitely a lot more crowded, but wasn’t nearly the zoo that the other places are and the traffic wasn’t that bad. Got stuck in Bluffton on the way in for about 45 minutes but I’ll take any day that over the 5 hours it took to go the last 30 miles trying to get to Nags Head last summer.

Come to Hilton Head in May or September. Milder temps, the kids are back in school & their parents gone & no traffic jams. Backed up to Bluffton, like at 278 & 46? That’s quite a ways from the bridge, where the locals tell me the backups usually occur. I take the cross island toll road & rarely see more than ten cars. Beaches are nearly deserted except at beach accesses.

Much more normal crowds & traffic then. FWIW we live just three hours away in upstate. Myrtle Beach said to have a huge number of Canadian snowbirds early in the year; as they say, “Pierre is everywhere”.
