Remember when Perot used 'you people' in a speech at the NAACP?..........................
Yeah, I do. The guy genuinely looked surprised when the PVs* in the audience murmured their displeasure.
I wish to God he would have said something like:
1) "You People" as in You People 'in the audience'."(hooking fingers to describe quotes) "Why is it that I can say that to any other non-black audience and they instinctively know what I mean? You see what happens when you view everything through race-colored glasses?"
or
2) "How many of "You People" belong to a group that has 'Black' in the title? Raise of hands please." (A sea of hands go up.)
So, you identify with a group that singles you out as black, you re-segregate yourselves on campus, vilify your successful brothers for "Actin' White", you go out of your way to isolate yourself from our culture, and then complain when someone refers to you as 'You People'? You can't have it both ways. Come back to me when you've made up your mind."
I was on good terms with a black kid where I worked and he slammed Perot for that. I went into my spiel in 2) and that was the end of the friendship.
