Michelle Obama: Changes to School Lunch Menu 'Unacceptable'

First Lady Michelle Obama sent a strong message to Republicans in Congress who want to allow local school districts to opt out of the federal regulations on school lunches.

"This is unacceptable," she said during a roundtable discussion of the issue. “It's unacceptable to me not just as First Lady but also as a mother."

The strict rules, passed in 2010, limit the amount of fat, calories, sugar, and sodium served in school meals.

House Republicans are supporting a measure that would allow some school districts to opt out of the standards — if they can prove that it is affecting their school budgets.

The First Lady pointed out that since the regulations, kids in the United States were eating more fruits and vegetables.

"The last thing we can afford to do right now is play politics with our kids' health,” she added. “Now is not the time to roll back everything we have worked for."

She’s an arrogant idiot.

Phony as they come, but make no mistake, she THINKS everybody owes her something.

As a mom, I could tell her to just hush up because her kids are getting fed pretty well at their pricy private school.

I know what’s best for my kids in public school. If they want to pack Twinkies and PBJs on Wonder Bread, fine. They get healthy, balanced meals at home.

Notice ... I’m not telling any other mom how to raise her kids.

John Stossel was just on FNC with Bill O’Reilly. He said garbage cans in school cafeterias are much healthier.

Seeing the defiance, she would probably want the schools to have the schools seal the exits and force the kids to obey and eat what they are told to eat.

This photo always looked weird to me. Who bites into a burger and leaves two little wings on the sides? That is one big bite!

Unacceptable?? Today for lunch my boys had the following: ham and cheese with mayo, pickle and bacon with homemade tomato soup then 4 Chocolate Chip Cookies. They also had a slice of watermelon at 2.

Of course their lunch is anything they find in the refrigerator, which is about 7 feet from their school (the kitchen table)

The First Lady pointed out that since the regulations, kids in the United States were eating more fruits and vegetables. YEAH. And people in North Korea eat tree bark and weeds. I thought I had tapped the depth of my loathing for these two. They always find a new level.

The real Marie Antoinette got a very unfair rap.

"Let them eat cake" were some of the worst words NEVER said.

the problem with Obama’s wife is her insinuation that school districts are incapable of choosing a healthy food service menu, on their own or that state’s themselves are incapable of offering help or assistance with such a manner

her meme of “only the federal government can decide healthy food choices for public schools” is nothing more than an untruthful excuse for federal government power, period

The real Marie Antoinette got a very unfair rap.

"Let them eat cake" were some of the worst words NEVER said.

The actual words she uttered were, in effect a royal permission/pardon from the sumptuary laws in France in effect at that particular point in time. The lower classes were prohibited, by law, from consuming a certain quality of bread, known as 'brioche'. The penalty for this could be quite severe, and carried the possibility of death.

There came a time when the stored bread of the commoners was rendered unfit for human consumption. Her edict was, that this being the case, that the old laws would be suspended, and that commoners could eat the brioche which was unspoiled, with no adverse legal consequences.

This, of course, made her enemies at the royal court, who turned around and twisted her decree of compassion into something quite sinister and diametrically opposed to what she intended.

That this long-ago 'spin job', propaganda at its very worst, still persists to this day is absolutely apalling...

If public school lunches were the same as her kids eat, she would have a crazy fit

That should be our mantra: This woman is not an elected official in any capacity. She has no authority to demand anything. So she “married” some politician who happens to be the pResident of the USA? That's her business, and she should mind her own business, and keep her nose out of We the People's business.

She is playing the part of a dictator's “wife”..you know, barack, the guy she once said would not “allow” We the People to govern ourselves. Dictators and their wives are eventually dealt with and swing from a rope, or something.

Geez, when I last saw Elena, she was lined up against a wall with the old man. Moral of the story: be careful what you wish for, mooch...just ask Elena how her dictator wife days turned out.

I agree. Wives of presidents should be addressed as Mrs. so and so. Terms of endearment such as “first lady” are not necessary. And if wives of presidents want a office staff to assist them, the wives can pay for it themselves. Or maybe out of the loose change in the sugar bowel.
