I'm not sure, here, but I was doing heavy construction (driving sheeting on a seawall crew) at 14. The sheeting hammer I operated weighed 120 lbs, and I worked it alone, standing on top of the wall, about 8 inches wide. That after years of baling hay and working in tobacco fields.

By 16, most of us could have played catch with a 23 pound stone.

Then, I'll wait for all our real he-men here to check in on the punishment they impose on THEMSELVES when they really, really screw up.

LOL! I'm married. That'd be double-jeopardy.

So, all those hay bales we piled up, just to have them turn into bovine crap, were pointless cruelty? LOL! Who knew?

Totally a historical moment.

I just wish there hadn’t been articles after the event talking about how mean coaches were for pushing them to the limit and beyond to make them into the best, so they COULD be good enough to qualify and enter the Olympics.

An observation. Everyone of those prisoners was likely sure who their mother was.

Well let's see. I said "Hard work to accomplish a valuable or necessary task is one thing. It teaches discipline, the value of hard work, pride in accomplishment and gets rid of laziness and sloth."

So what the hell are YOU talking about?

We have some treacherous trails in the Black Rock Canyon area near Pocatello. I took the DR650SE out there in August 2008. At 6600 ft in 95F heat, I laid the bike down twice. The second time was on loose shale with the tires pointed uphill, head pointed downhill, running engine, gasoline dribbling from the tank and my left leg under the bike. There were bleached bones in a nearby bush. No cell phone coverage, so the good fairy wasn't coming to rescue me. I killed the engine and used my already injured right leg to push the bike off my left leg. At that point I spun the bike (flat on the left side) to get the gas dribbling stopped. I was exhausted from the heat and fighting the bike at 6600 ft. After catching my breath, I had to maneuver the bike to a clearing about 10 yards down the hill. The shift lever was jammed under the case. Stuck in 1st gear :-( I was able to start the engine and ride the bike back to civilization. Fixing the shift lever and rehydrating with some Gatorade took place at a local 7-11. It was a rough first day back in the dirt. I was 52 at the time.

Suffice to say that I find genteel street biking more to my liking these days.

The location where the described problem happened is identified in the Google link here. Back out the zoom until spot Black Rock Canyon Rd near I-15 to get an idea of how far in I had gone.

Value is where you find it.

I liked the bleached bones touch.

Similar situation happened to me a couple years ago but no injury and no bike damage. Just hyperventilating and hysteria on my part. Having your head pointed downhill does something to one's rational reasoning ability lol.

I do take the 2M HT and GMRS with me now. And H2O.

No idea how the guys with the big bikes do it on those trails. Actually, I do know: with a lot of help. Took as many as six guys to get an R1200GS Adventure up an exceptionally steep trail near here with "baby head" rocks stacked on it, but the guy rode the rest of the trail pretty well by himself.

I'll stick with the trials bike weighing 1/4 of that. The trials bike could ride up and over the BMW and rider if they were down.

I had my Advanced Class ham license when I got married. My wife became a master falconer and realized that she needed field communications capability. Cell phones weren't an option at the time. She earned a Tech+. Took her exam on the last day the code was required. She wants to upgrade to General for more opportunities. I upgraded to Extra after moving to Idaho. The 2M HT and H20 are recommended :-)

That little trials bike must be a fun beast. That kind of technical riding is more enjoyable than ripping around on a hot 450...unless it is in the sand near St Anthony. That might be fun.

Stay safe and have fun!

Whatever..I’m not even going to try and argue with chic logic because it’s without exception an effort in futility.
