OBAMA’S REICHSTAG FIRE MOMENT TAKES THE STAGE
Sen. Ted Cruz dropped a bombshell, as you will see in this video, where he emphatically states that the United States Senate this year will vote on a Constitutional amendment to effectively repeal the First Amendment. This is Senate Joint Resolution 19 that Se. Cruz is referring to. It proposes an amendment to the Constitution of the United States relating to contributions and expenditures intended to affect elections.

This vote will give the Congress the plenary power and unlimited authority to regulate political speech. The door that they plan on using revolves around campaign finance reform, but will extend to all areas of political speech across the board.
“When you think it can’t get any worse, it does,” Cruz said. “This year, I’m sorry to tell you, the United States Senate is going to be voting on a constitutional amendment to repeal the First Amendment.”
“I am telling you — I am not making this up. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has announced the Senate Democrats are scheduling a vote on a constitutional amendment to give Congress the authority to regulate political speech because elected officials have decided they don’t like it when the citizenry has the temerity to criticize what they’ve done,” he added.

I heard the same thing said about both Clinton and Bush. Come Jan 20, 2017, Obama will be gone.
t remains that unless the House actually agrees with the Senate's bill that it will go nowhere. So I still like my election year theories.

I would wager that most of the 14 Democrat holdouts are up for re-election this November.
And that, if pressed, at least half of them would vote for the amendment. There might even be a few Republicans who would vote for such an amendment -- John McCain, e.g. He has never been a big fan of free speech and there is a lot of McCain-Feingold about this Amendment.
The Democrat party stands for tyranny.
Senator Cruz didn't write the article. And nothing in his quoted remarks goes beyond the facts.

Three fifths had to do with an aspect of the congressional representation of our more southerly states. It was an unseemly compromise that was agreed to in order to get the Constitution ratified.

Your analysis is absurd.
If anything, Mr. Cruz simply assumed that anyone who is paying attention understands the Amendment process. Nowhere can I see, from that video, that he is subtly or overtly implying that the Senate can amend the constitution by itself.
He does not describe the entire process, but why would he need to? The process begins in Congress or a Constitutional Convention, so I don’t see your irrational line of reasoning having any substance unless it springs forth from personal bias.

before then the states had the power , the state legislators selected the senators
The point is that the Senate cannot act unilaterally from the House regardless if the issue is a proposed amendment to the Constituiton or a bill for a federal law. So unless Reid is working with House RINO "leadership" on a bill to limit 1st Amendment protected speech, I don't know why Cruz seemed to be sounding alarm about a Senate vote.
