If she’d like to comfort herself she can sit down and figure out how much she’s saving by just having a higher property tax rate as opposed to a 7% income tax rate or whatever.

Not that I don’t think the property tax should be abolished...it should, on Homestead property at least.

I agree that taxes on the homestead should be abolished. As long as the government can take your property for taxes you don’t really own it.

100% right. And private property owners in Austin are really behind the 8-ball from the outset because so much of what passes for a tax base in Austin is off the tax rolls because it's state or city property. That means an even greater burden falls upon the ordinary property taxpayer in Travis County.

You'd think that an informed voter in Austin who works for a living would have reckoned with that reality long ago, but in the case of this Gretchen Goober person, I guess not.

Most property taxes go to support the decaying government school system. They suck up more and more money while education suffers. The best thing to happen to this country would be the privatization of education at all leves. Let the liberals indoctrinate their own kiddies... if they have any.

He’s doing a “spectacular” job doing just that to bail out the sewer formerly known as Detroit right now.
