You can’t simply say: “I renounce my citizenship.” and then not become a US citizen.

There is a procedure to follow, papers to be formally filed, etc.

Eduardo Saverin ( co-founder of FACEBOOK ) and Singer, Tina Turner, both renounced their citizenships. But they followed the proper procedure.

I guess I’m just to the point where I think Obama has a Teflon coating, because A) he’s got a sympathetic media that wont run anything against him and B) you have the combined masses of minorities and socialists who would defend Obama no matter what he did.

If these two groups had a picture of him urinating on the flag while desecrating the grave of George Washington, they would praise his tireless archeological efforts, and point out that he wouldn’t stop digging even to go to the restroom, and that Bush must have put that flag there.

We’ll hear how the other soldiers just didn’t like him because he was peaceful and sympathetic to the Arabs, cause they are all a bunch of racist warmongers. Or he threatened their manhood because he liked and performed ballet. Then, the coup de grace, his mom will go cry on Oprah, and talk about how Obama has been so supportive through this whole process and how she wishes everyone could see him like she has....and the sheeple will swoon.

Actually, serving in the armed forces of a foreign state actively in conflict with the US, is one of the 7 acts that result in loss of US citizenship. No need for any paperwork, it's automatic, and unlike treason, does not require a conviction.

Can the Taliban be considered a 'foreign state', that depends, but it appears likely, as Obama has entered agreements such as this exchange in which he treats it as such.

There were reports in 2010 where the Taliban claimed that Bergdahl was training them on how to make IED's, and how to better attack convoys. If those reports are true, in my opinion Bergdahl is no longer a US Citizen, no matter if he made a statement to that effect or not.

If you are a Muslim, you only have to say your renouncement three times. Then you are good to go.

While that may be true as far as perfecting the renunciation, just saying or writing the words while a soldier in a war zone and then abandoning your post is text book treason.

Of course you can. The super rich just do it so they can move their cash around. Regular dude could flip the bird and just never come home, and never visit. Following the official state procedure just lets you be able to visit the USA as a tourist later.

True, but it is an extremely incriminating statement and admission against interest as proof that he intended to desert permanently from his unit while on the battle field. A capital case of desertion in my book and a slam dunk to convict. However, I’m certain high level ‘command influence’ is already in the works.
