Coal-state lawmakers, accusing President Obama of using a back door to impose strict emissions limits on power plants, are rallying to slam that door shut -- claiming the plan would cost jobs and jack up electric bills.
In Kentucky, West Virginia, and other states that rely on coal to fuel their own economies -- and that help generate power for everybody else -- officials vowed Monday to introduce legislation halting the newly announced EPA plan.
Under the draft regulation unveiled Monday, carbon emissions at fossil fuel-burning power plants would be cut 30 percent by 2030.
Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., calling the move an "assault" on the economy and an "illegal use of executive power," said he'd "force a vote to repeal it."
On the House side, Democratic West Virginia Rep. Nick Rahall announced he would introduce legislation, along with Rep. David McKinley, R-W.Va., to stop the EPA plan.
"We will introduce bipartisan legislation that will prevent these disastrous new rules from wreaking havoc on our economy in West Virginia," Rahall said in a statement.
The 645-page plan, expected to be finalized next year, is a centerpiece of Obama's climate change agenda, and a step that the administration hopes will get other countries to act when negotiations on a new international treaty resume next year.

He did, but what are the chances of over-riding the all powerful fedgov?
All it takes is a simple law prohibiting the EPA from regulating carbon dioxide emissions in any way, shape, or fashion.
If Congress balks at doing something like this they merely demonstrate that they’re giving only lip service to the problem.
Oh, if only a single sentence had been embedded somewhere in the Affordable Care Act that nobody had been allowed to read!

Why are there any Democrats left in office in those states???
Exactly how could the feds physically shut it down?
The state could simply allow the owner to set up a separate company and let the plant continue to operate.
Lawmakers in states with significant electrical generation via coal-fired powerplants had better be raising Cain as well. This is a real economy-killing issue. Most people, even those here at Free Republic, don’t realize how bad this might be.
Part of this BS is while http://www.clickgreen.org.uk/news/international-news/124741-european-union-reports-lowest-greenhouse-gas-emissions-on-record.html those same Euros profit from their coal and energy intensive investments in China. They basically decided to play the "trash the other country and look clean" game many years ago. I am sure there are plenty of Obama donors who are competing against our domestic industry and would like to see it further hobbled.
Obama and Holder are setting the stage to arrest people who disagree with them... it won't just be right wingers...
Wouldn’t it be neat if all of the CEO’s of coal fired power plants decided to completely shut down their plants for a week just to let people know how much we depend on their product.
