Words fail.
The big drunk football player mouthed off and the cops killed him.
Sounds like an escape attempt gone bad.
Thug-cops are getting creative.
did the handcuffs "fall off" too?
Many of these "Serve and Protect" blue coats will happily jump to Obama's army given the call.
If your arms are through the armholes of a life jacket and you're handcuffed, how does it "fall off"?!
anyone know the if the family dog is OK?
Really? Now I don't have a lot of experience with life jackets, but it seems to me that you put your arms through openings just like a coat. If that's the case, just how did " his life jacket fell off when he hit the water." if he was handcuffed? Either the cops did not insure that their prisoner was safely transported or " Lucy, you got some splainin to do!"
Exactly. The life jacket COULD NOT HAVE COME OFF if he was handcuffed. It might not have been tied down, all tidy, but would not have come off.
Their only loyalty is to the pension.
Spending a lot of time at this lake, I have to tell you that drunken stupidity is rampent there at certain times.
The water patrol boats are mostly center console due to having to deal with the big chop on that lake. If this guy was handcuffed and seated, the patrolman bringing him in might have not had him in his vision or expected him to stand up and go off a high speed water patrol boat on his own.
Perhaps Eric knows the details.
By the time he circled back, easily a minute or two might have passed due to the speed that they run to plane out above the waves.
“but his life jacket fell off when he hit the water”!
Yeah!!!?
Well, if those are the only two possibilities being investigated of how Ellingson ended up in the water dead, the Missouri Patrol could just do a coin toss to decide.
His life jacket fell off?
Pull the other one bub, it has bells on it.

seems to say that the charter boater that stopped to help verifies that first by pole and then by jumping in to where he nearly drowned himself the officer did his best to try and save the guy. Lake of the Ozarks is not a placid lake.
At worse it sounds like negligence on the part of police. That’s a far cry from outright murder no matter what the OWS FReeper “consensus” dictates.
I live on a lake in Ks. Wildlife person grabbed a neighbor on the lake and forced him to take his boat to the ramp. He accused him with boating while intoxicated but didn’t have the breathalyzer. He held him until the County Sherriff deputies arrived to administer a blood test. They then made the 70+ guy walk home a mile or so in 100 degree weather. The test came back 0.00. My dealings with the Kansas Wildlife and Parks was always positive but it seems like we have a new game in town.
If I was to be handcuffed for operating a boat while drinking, and to be transported by a boat and a single cop, I would protest the danger of that, and surely the cop didn’t handcuff his hands behind him?
Here is more, “”Reinsch said Ellingson, who was handcuffed behind his back, stood up while being transported on a 29-foot Donza power cruiser boat “”——”Ellingson was wearing a life jacket but it did not stay on him after he went into the water. Reinsch said the patrol uses different types of lifejackets and it was likely the vest type, which snaps in front.
He was placed in a seat but was not secured. “There are no seatbelts in the boat,” Reinsch said.”
“The officer and Ellingson were the only people on the boat. Reinsch said he was not sure how fast the boat was going because of factors like the boat model, traffic and water conditions.”
It seems inexplicable how this could have happened, except...I have no idea what type of life vest they used (some do not have armholes - they just go around your neck, and cover your chest, with a buckle strap across the back - that could easily come off, especially if it wasn't securely fastened, which might be likely if the "perp" was resisting arrest, and intoxicated. He was prepared for a possible boating accident, NOT a feet-first leap overboard)...and it seems there were many people attempting to rescue the young man.
If the officer was alone (as the article says), he could not leave the "perp" un-handcuffed...that also begs the question, why was the officer patrolling alone, though? and what happened to the kid's boat?
But foul play or egregious/vicious police behavior, I don't think so.
