Bell is an extremely intelligent guy, and ran without much big-name support. People remember him as the young fellow who defeated Sen Clifford Case in a primary in 1978. Case, although nominally a Republican, was the only US Senator to participate in fund-raising for the Socialist Party in the 1960s. Bell will have an uphill fight in November, but he is very much worth working for. In a debate, he could beat any Democrat around.

“People remember him as the young fellow who defeated Sen Clifford Case in a primary in 1978.”

Less than one third of New Jersey’s voting age population were residents of NJ when Bell last ran for office here.

And Bell spent how long living in the DC suburbs, 20 years or more?

Anyways, of all the choices, at least he is a seasoned political operator who will perform well in the debates and campaign.

I live in NJ3, where everyday we received at least
one flyer each from MacArthur and Lonegan.About
2 weeks ago got a very effective mailer from
Bell, I am not sure I get any from the other senate
candidates.
His number one item on his platform is to return
to the gold standard. Don’t think he will have
enough to overcome Booker’s walking around
money in Essex, Hudson & Passaic, and the average
low info voter, who has no idea what the gold
standard was,
Btw, I voted for him out of nostalgia-he was
the first vote I ever cast for a senator against Bill Bradley-
so why not?
