Appearing on the Today Show this morning, Chuck Todd reports that, in response to allegations of possible desertion by Bowe Bergdahl, White House sources are accusing the soldiers that served with him of "swift boating." Prior to the allegations made by those who served with Bergdahl, White House national security advisor Susan Rice had said Bergdahl served with "Honor and distinction." From the transcript of the Today Show:
Every [White House] aide I've talked to said they expected there to be controversy involving the decision to release five members of the taliban from gitmo, and the fact that this would then escalate that debate, which has been simmering for a good five years, which is what to do with those detainees, how do you release them, where do you release them. They did not expect this backlash on bergdahl himself. I've had a few aides describe it to me as we didn't know that they were going to swift boat Bergdahl. And that's a reference to that political fight back in 2004 over john kerry's military service, so there's some fighting words there.

Bergdahl also has to atone for all of his afghan folks who died as a result of his actions.

I thought the same thing along with the possibility that a youngster or 2 just might google the term and learn something new.
This isn’t about some political bickering. This is about life and death. Bergdahl’s unit had circled their vehicles to form a defensive position. That means they thought that the enemy could attack them from any direction.

You have to plan protection for 360 degrees. That means that EVERY rifle is critical. The enemy doesn’t want to charge directly into your weapons fire, so they watch and probe to find a place where they can sneak in. Once they have snuck into the American defensive position, they can go around shooting American Soldiers in the back because the American Soldiers are oriented OUTWARDS. The enemy would be BEHIND them because Bergdahl abandoned his post.
That’s why the Soldiers are angry. Bergdahl, in a combat zone, walked off and left them open to slaughter.
Chuck Todd is an idiot and should go hang himself. Better, let’s put old Chuck in contact with the enemy in Afghanistan and leave him there to fight them by himself. Let’s see how he likes it when he sees the enemy flanking him.

Actually two in his unit are not Swift Boating this piece of trash. They can not Swift Boat him. They are dead. They died looking for him. Also if the reports are accurate a total of 14 men died looking for him. This includes all units involved in the search.
