Maureen Dowds long, strange trip to Colorado lights up Internet

In more cultured circles, Maureen Dowd is known as the Pulitzer Prize–winning author and columnist for the New York Times, who was once named woman of the year by Glamour and is regarded as one of the most influential left-leaning journalists in the country.

On Twitter, she’s just another superparanoid stoner with a keyboard.

Dowd’s half-baked odyssey began when she flew to Denver to immerse herself in some of the local culture. No, not hitting the slopes or visiting the rifle range. She had designs on getting high. You know, for one of her columns.

So she went down to the local pot shop and bought a THC-laced candy bar. She took a nibble, waited, then made a real rookie mistake: “When nothing happened, nibbled some more,” she wrote. Famous last words.

Not as interesting or revealing as Michelle Malkins pro-medical marijuana column from a few weeks ago.

This is like Hugh Heffner writing about virginity.

What did Michael Douglas ever see in her?

Only saw her from the back.

The edible pot must be serious stuff. There was an article about a group of New York chicks who went to Denver to meet millionaire men. When that failed they tried some marijuana cookies.

They also ended up in a fetal position for hours.

These are not margaritas.

Mo’ Dowdy has merely evolved into the adult stage of the embittered Manhattan Prog-professional woman. Unlovable and unloved, under-appreciated intellectual by her peers and employers. When entertaining visiting “firemen” I used to see her type in mid-town hotel cocktail lounges after work sitting in the piano bar with a cigarette and “just one double Manhattan” trolling for a man. A bartender identified the type, they have that double and then move on to the next lounge to have the next “just this one double Manhattan” and repeat. Sad.

Pot cookie overdose is a real problem. I saw a well-adjusted older man go outright psychotic for hours after eating half of one.

I mean it’s not like she was all that unattractive, it’s her attitude that makes her ugly.

If she had any brain cells left, I’m sure they’re gone now.

You mean this one?

'some background about my longtime support of medical marijuana: More than 15 years ago in Seattle, while working at The Seattle Times, I met an extraordinary man who changed my mind about the issue. Ralph Seeley was a Navy nuclear submarine officer, pilot, cellist and lawyer suffering from chordoma, a rare form of bone cancer that starts in the spine. He had undergone several surgeries, including removal of one lung and partial removal of the other, and was confined to a wheelchair.

'Chronically nauseous from chemotherapy and radiation, weak from a suppressed appetite, and suffering excruciating pain, Seeley turned to marijuana cigarettes for relief.

'Contrary to cultural stereotype, Seeley was far from “wasted.” While smoking the drug to reduce his pain, he finished law school — something he couldn’t have done while on far more powerful “mainstream” narcotics, which left him zonked out and vomiting uncontrollably in his hospital bed after chemo. Seeley had the backing of his orthopedic doctor and University of Washington School of Medicine oncologist Dr. Ernest Conrad. He took his plight to the Washington state supreme court, where he asserted a constitutionally protected liberty interest in having his doctor issue a medical pot prescription.

'The court rejected Seeley’s case for physician-prescribed marijuana, arguing that the government’s interest in preserving an “interlocking trellis” of costly and ineffective War on Drug laws trumped his right to individual autonomy and physician treatment.'

That has to be the most beautiful dark-haired Caucasian in the world. And the reason is that she's happy. She is bountiful, she loved her husband, she gladly gave him three children, she was happy to be a mother and wife. Progs don't operate that way.

What the heck? Are they pushing marijuana tourism, so you can go smoke marijuana legally somewhere????

Gives new meaning to the term “Rocky Mountain High”.

My fav.

I’ll only pay for NYT Opinion if it’s a captain’s log-style documentation of Maureen Dowd’s spiral into drug addiction.

Maureen Dowd’s spiral into drug addiction.

Don't hold your breath - pot is less addictive than alcohol or tobacco.

She looks as wizened as the 5th grade nun who made my life a living hell in 1965.

And I had her cousin, twice. My therapy (twitch) is going well (twitch), thank you.

Consumption of cooked edible marijuana should be used only by those used to it.

Anyone unaccustomed should go very slow and wait an hour to hour and a half for effect

Its a gimmick really

The real way to smoke pot is in a joint...in today’s weed a jay will last thru several buzzes for average smoker
