Post-Election and Primary Runoff Information

Delbert Hosemann
Secretary of State

Process for Certifying Election Results in a Party Primary:

All primary elections in the State of Mississippi are run by the respective state parties. State law requires the transmittal of certified election results to the State Party Executive Committees of the Democratic and Republican Parties.  The State Party Executive Committees compile the certified results from each county and certify their election results.  The Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office does not certify the results of a Primary Election.  The certification is performed by the State Party Executive Committees.  The State Executive Committees have ten (10) days from the date of the election (June 13, 2014) to submit certified results to the Secretary of State’s Office.  The Secretary of State’s Office accepts the certified results by the State Executive Committees on behalf of the State of Mississippi.  (Miss. Code Ann §23-15-599)

They’re both dealmakers and the tea partier is just a troublesome bloke who keeps talking about Founding principles and that archaic document from a bygone age all the Constitution.

Excellent and McDaniel’s campaign team needs a call immediately. If they don’t have a couple of focused specialists working on this now, they need it. The bigger the blow out the better.

I think you’re exactly right. If you look at his bungling few appearances, it appears his age has caught up with him.

He’s losing all those perks and goodies he’s come to expect.

Check this out. Article says Cochran was being interviewed by a reporter
and after 30 minutes Cochran could not remember the reporters name.
AND, Cochran extended his hand for a handshake and re-introduced
himself again.

Agree. McDaniel needs to call a press conference and call of a debate.
And do it soon.

With these results so very close, could votes get thrown out that were ‘provisional’ and those voters do NOT supply the affidavit needed as described above?

IF Cochran voters did this type of voting & they don’t do the necessary follow-up, could it swing the results to McDaniel before the run-off is required???

Just asking.........There is only a 1386 vote difference, and how many ‘provisional’ votes did Cochran get???

“...the tea partier is just a troublesome bloke who keeps talking about Founding principles and that archaic document from a bygone age all the Constitution.”

Plus the tea party actually tracks voting records and expects those pesky politicians to keep their promises. Accountability is such a burden.

I have no idea about the affidavite ballots. But I’d think there wouldn’t be a lot of them.

Well the GOP should at least be happy there is a tea party republican in the senate instead of a democrat.

There is a long list of conservative Republican nominees who would refute that contention.

I don’t think the affidavit ballots are even counted until an acceptable ID is
provided on or before June 10, 2014. Then and only then is it counted is my reading.

****
June 10, 2014: Deadline for voters who did not present acceptable photo identification for the 2014 Primary Election, who had to cast an affidavit ballot, to submit acceptable photo identification to the Circuit Clerk’s Office for their ballot to be counted. (MS Const. §249-A-(2)(c))

I think it’s better if McDaniel doesn’t do that. Let a bunch of outside voices do it. Let some Mississippi groups set some up and invite both candidates. Let McDaniel then enthusiastically accept and let Cochran spin in the wind.

I just think that McDaniel would look heavy handed and self-serving demanding debates. It needs to come from unaffiliated third parties.

“Only those who voted in yesterday’s Republican primary can vote in the run-off.”

I’m watching this race from afar and hoping McDaniel will win. Just trying to understand the rules.

I read what you said on the election thread the other night. But, then saw the below (posted above from the SoS), am I mis-reading it? Based on the 2nd bullet, it seems to me that if a voter was registered for the primary, even though they didn’t vote in the primary, they could still vote in the run-off. The guidelines also say that the run-off does not allow cross-over votes, so, those that are registered as Dims couldn’t vote in the Pubbie run-off, which is a good thing.

“Citizens must have been registered for the June 3, 2014 Primary Election to be eligible to vote in the June 24, 2014 Primary Runoff Election.
• If an eligible voter did not participate in the June 3rd Primary Election, the voter may vote in either the Democratic or Republican Primary Runoff.”

Best,
SC

That is not the way I understood it. But, who am I to dispute the Secretary of State? If every eligible Dem voter can really participate in the runoff, then McDaniel will have a more difficult row to hoe.

However, Tokyo Rove has decided not to put any more money behind Cochran, so that should tell us something about how many crossover Dems are expected to turn out for Cochran vs how many tea partiers for McDaniel.

“I heard today the GoP e won’t support Cochran from here. They won’t support McDaniel either, but he’s done with out them.”
**********************************************************************

I think your first sentence is only partially true—the GOPe, for the most part, is supporting Cochran in the runoff.

Your second sentence (if I’m understanding its meaning correctly) is not completely true. It’s true that McDaniel and his constitutional conservative supporters are not expecting the GOPe’s help. But McDaniel will win the runoff and the general election with or without GOPe support. In some ways, it would be better that they don’t support his campaigns; that way he would DEFINITELY know he owes them nothing and the gradual process of weeding the corruptacRATS out of the Mississippi Republican Party can proceed completely unhindered.
