OK so the author is aware that God and Generals was a work of fiction? And that Stonwall Jackson didn't say that, Stephen Lang did because the script told him to?

He’s the last one executed. Is he the last one convicted?

In a way I don’t blame him, Nam was the first war or if you prefer police action that was run by politicians. He did turn his life around, he went on to become a grower and retailer of some decent pot.

There were a fair number of folks who went awol during that ‘conflict’. Your friend’s story is so very very different than this POS deserter. Surely that is apparent to you. This dirt bag gave information to the enemy that improved their kill rate against American soldiers. That is more than being awol. It is worse than desertion (I have a great uncle who was dishonorably discharged from the 1st Virginia due to desertion shortly after the battle in some northern town in Pennsylvania). IT IS TREASON.

Those who commit treason ought to die.

And of course the treason he committed just means he ought to die slowly and severely ...oooops that’s my code... means he would get the death penalty as well

My BIL was in the army, landing craft of things would have figured the navy would have handled that, when he heard the rumor that we might be heading for the Mideast to fight, just so happened that is reenlistment time coincided with the rumor, so he reupped for out after 13 years of taking the taxpayer’s money. Army was great in peacetime but he had a different opinion when the possibility of shots being fired came round.
After he got out he got a job with the government which counted his 13 years towards retirement.
I never liked that guy.

If everything thing I have heard about this guy, especially giving aid to the enemy, is true, then tall tree short rope is in order.

Ernie Slovak was the first and only American soldier at that time and since then shot for desertion. Prior to 1945 the last American soldier executed for desertion was in 1865. Eisenhower’s reason for doing so was the US Army was just coming out of the brutal fighting of The Battle of The Bulge and he was determined to set an example.
