When was the last deserter convicted? I was wondering because if it was recent, what right does the military have to let this guy go?

Private Eddie Slovik in WW2. Last one I know and it was difficult to get done. Lots of Folks against it which probably why none since.

Eddie Slovak, 29th. Inf. Div. Shot for desertion on Dec.31, 1945 in Belgium on orders from General Eisenhower..
