Crapo Opposed Similar Swap for Bergdahl
Idaho Statesman ^ | June 5, 2014 | Dan Popkey

Sen. Mike Crapo talks to media in November 2010 on the night he was elected to his third six-year term. DARIN OSWALD — Darin Oswald / Idaho Statesman |Buy Photo The senator has 'significant concerns' about Saturday's trading five Taliban leaders for the Idaho soldier. GOP Sen. Mike Crapo said Thursday that he earlier objected to an Obama administration proposal to free six Taliban prisoners in exchange for the release of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.

Congress was informed about the plan to exchange prisoners at Guantanamo for Bergdahl and Crapo was among those who “pushed back very strongly,” he told the Statesman.

“I don’t remember the exact dates, but back, I think, in 2011, there was a possibility like this,” Crapo said.

In earlier negotiations, the Taliban “wanted all of the Gitmo prisoners released and it may have been 21 and then other numbers,” Crapo continued. “I know that ultimately these five became a focal point — there were six of them at that time, but one of them has passed away.”

Crapo said that he would not have been critical of President Obama for having turned down Saturday’s deal for the same five prisoners — even if Bergdahl’s captors subsequently tortured and murdered him and showed the crimes on video.

“What I’m saying is I would not criticize the administration if that were to happen because even before I have expressed objection to the release of these five terrorists,” Crapo said.

Crapo spoke to the Statesman early Thursday, after Wednesday night’s 2-hour secure briefing of most of the Senate by the White House, Department of Defense, State Department and CIA, among others. Until Thursday, Crapo had declined interview requests.

“We are all still very happy that Bowe Bergdahl has been released and is in U.S. custody,” Crapo said. “(But) I personally

You can’t be forced to negotiate at the point of a gun. If they threatened to torture or kill a prisoner and televise it live, it doesn’t change a thing. There are some demands that clearly can’t be complied with, like giving them a Stealth Bomber armed with a live nuclear missile.

My point is that some deals can be made (a low-level deserter for one of their low-level jihadis) and some deals can’t. It’s up to the President to make deals that make sense, and not hide behind platitudes (”Americans leave no soldier behind”) or claim that he was left with no choice. There is always a choice. You don’t do the deal and accept the consequences, or you do the deal and accept those consequences.

I like Crapo. He and Jim Risch (our other senator) could've easily gotten behind the "Bowe is a hero" sentiment that has been pervasive in Idaho for five years, and that would've been the safe thing to do. Of course, it would have blown up in their faces, too, just as it's done for the town of Hailey.

OTOH, Dan Popkey is a self-important piece of Commie swill, and I won't even allow my parrots to crap on the Idaho Slantsman.

Invisible? You must not be paying attention.

Yeah, 12 years ago. Oh, but you probably know more about crapo and risch than I do, somehow. The only time we hear their names is when re-election time rolls around. Other than that, invisible.

Neither risch nor crapo has voiced as much as a whisper of dissent or opposition to the criminal in the white house. Invisible.

They both are the kind of republican politicians that democrats love. Silent, go with the flow, never saying anything. Pushovers. Career politicians who don’t want to make any waves.

I guess you don't listen to the news, then. If you did, you'd hear them quite often...at least on the stations where I've worked. So I guess they just might be invisible, if you're uninformed, that is.

Wow...I guess you don't pay any attention to the news. I guess you never attended any of the Tea Party rallies, or the 2nd Amendment rallies at the Capitol, either. It's not their fault that you're uninformed.

Uh huh. I doubt you could come up with a single news story from the past 4 or 5 years where either of these two invisible men had anything negative to say about the criminal in the white house.

Crapo: “I think I kind of remember saying something to someone once about not releasing these taliban, but maybe l just dreamed it.” Which is likely, because you can’t tell if he’s ever asleep or awake.

Risch: “If anything by chance happens today, i’ll be hiding under my desk, as usual. Please don’t disturb me.”

Seriously, I doubt if .1% of the people in the country could name either of these two. Like I said, they are the democrats favorite kind of republican. Silent and invisible. Well, except for when getting arrested for dui (crapo), or raising the sales tax in the state (risch).

Okay, here you go...

Crapo and Paul oppose budget deal

Risch and Crapo to Oppose Kagan Confirmation

Crapo, Risch and Labrador statements on budget deal

Idaho’s Sen. Risch touts ranking as No. 1 Obama opponent

Risch says Idahoans oppose getting involved in Syria

Risch: Debt a huge problem

All these stories were on the first page of searches on "Crapo opposes Obama" and "Risch opposes Obama". It literally took me about four times as long to do the copying, pasting and HTML stuff as it did to find these articles. I could post more, but I rest my case.

I could go on, and tell you about Crapo's weekly conference calls with reporters...how do I know about them? Because I used to sit on them and use the audio in my stories. I could go on, but it's like kicking a puppy. You don't know what you're talking about. The more you talk, the deeper a hole you dig for yourself. Do yourself a favor and just stop talking now. You obviously don't pay attention, so that's why Crapo and Risch are invisible to you. Checkmate.

Typical lapdog RINO response from who I now know to be an establishment mouthpiece. These two senators are fine staying within their comfort zones, talking to people like you in the media bubble. You must know republican party meetings, speeches to friendly audiences and the like, dont get any publicity. Idaho is one of the most conservative states and we have two INVISIBLE and SILENT senators, who both should be out there every day speaking out about the criminal in the white house But they aren’t, of course. Too cushy in their comfortable lives to make waves. Ok, go ahead and try it if you want, you won’t like the results, but just ask ten random people outside of your bubble If they can name either Idaho senator. All you will get is a confused look.
But you’ll never admit it because you don’t know what you’re talking about.
oh, game, set, match.

I really have to laugh at the so called examples you provided about idaho’s senators speaking out about Obama. Not a single word from either about the rampant criminality that has been going on for several years. Just a few meek, polite statements of possible disagreement on policy or nominees. Guess that’s good enough for you though. Good grief, no wonder republicans have been losing to this guy.

You asked for one article, I gave you six! Now you're trying to move the goalposts after the kick...a weenie tactic typical of liberals who've just had their heads handed to them.

Look, I've proven you're talking out your a**. You know nothing. Do yourself a favor and shut up, already. You're only embarrassing yourself. Are you too dumb to realize that, or too stubborn to just keep your yap shut? Maybe it's both...dumb and stubborn.

Either way, you're like the Black Knight, and I've already lopped off your arms and legs. Only unlike King Arthur, I'm not calling it a draw. You lost, I won. Deal with it, and think next time before you start talking sh*t about things of which you know nothing.

6 examples of nothing. Trying to debate with you is exactly like trying to debate with any liberal. I’ve made a case about our two SILENT and INVISIBLE senators from idaho. You disagree but cant come up with a single example of where either have condemned the criminal. Even the examples you provided mention how low profile and quiet they are. Keep responding if you want but you are trying to make a non-existent case that they aren’t invisible, and you link to a few blog posts which 99.9999% of the people would never see, and to you that’s visible I guess. Risch and crapo are, weak, timid, too cozy in their jobs, or apparently too frightened to speak out forcefully against the criminal.
Where have either made a recent, high-profile statement, press-conference, speech or ad that says anything about the many criminal actions of obama? You won’t be able to come with anything, but it won’t matter to you because just like with any liberal, facts don’t matter.
