Gawd I’m a pussy.... 93 frickin years old and hitting the winds. That gene pool is what climbed the Point du Hoc cliffs and kicked Nazi a##. God Bless that old warrior, I’m pretty sure he must have been a real carnivore in battle. So proud that I belong to a country that has men like that.

I jumped out of a small plane once. I was 24. It was still on the ground. I sprained an ankle.

He is PeeWee Martin and he comes to Currahee (”Camp Toccoa”, Toccoa, GA) every year for Military Days; the man is sharp as a tack and a GREAT patriot!
We love him!

At 93, the guy looks great. No telling what he can “still” do.

Here he is up at Military Days in Toccoa GA photo JimPeeWeeMartinS_zps4d23230c.jpg

And this is him talking with our son in law who is an Item Co Re-enactor (also goes to Currahee every year with his "unit") photo P116345s_zps130667ae.jpg PeeWee is hero. But he says he did what he was trained to do. I'll try to come back later and post some links. If you are ever in North Georgia (Toccoa) stop by the old train depot and visit the Currahee "Camp Toccoa" Museum. Its an incredible collection of Easy Co memorabilia. Military Days is held in Toccoa, GA the first weekend of October and you can also run up Currahee or just walk or drive to the top.

A soldiers story.
70 years has it really been
I remember this day
it is when my war was to begin
Loading up with 80 lbs on my back
A parachute between me and god,
if it fails I’ll never come back
I get on the plane and all eyes are to the front
no man says a word not even a peep
they sit in their chairs and none of them speak
they sit with their thoughts, their prayers and fears
knowing that the time of death may soon be near.
The call to stand up is yelled through the noise
These were not men, but most were just boys.
The green light comes on like a star in the sky
The flack is heavy “oh god don’t let me die”
I enter the door this may be it, I just into the night
and hope not to get hit.
This night looks like the fourth of July
millions of colors light up the night sky
The whoosh of a round flies by my head
I watch as the C-47 burst into flame
I know those men are all surely dead
I say a prayer as I near the ground
I am scared I see no other soldiers around
This is it the ground grows near
the only sound is the wind rushing in my ears.
I hit with a jaw jarring crash
I made it safely I hope it will last
This was my start to the “Day of Days”
This was the start of “My D-Day”
A Soldiers Story- Doug Stephens 6/6/14

Watched it on the today show this morning. Then there was the pilot who flew his same restored C47 over the coast line that he flew on D-Day. Both brought a tear to my eye.

Meanwhile Obama’s reaction to the boring ceremony was to chew gum..
