In a new revelation in the growing Veterans Affairs' scandal, the organization's acting head says that an additional 18 veterans whose names were kept off an official electronic VA appointment list have died.
"I will come personally and apologize to the survivors," Gibson said Thursday.
Gibson's remarks during a visit to Phoenix were the latest related to the scandal over long patient waits for care and falsified records covering up the delays at VA hospitals and clinics nationwide.
The 18 veterans who died were among 1,700 veterans identified in a report last week by the VA's inspector general as being "at risk of being lost or forgotten." The investigation also found broad and deep-seated problems with delays in patient care and manipulation of waiting lists throughout the sprawling VA health care system, which provides medical care to about 9 million veterans and family members.

I never understood the VA concept anyways, why not place these people who are veterans under urgent care with other disabled Americans, or offer them a common health provision. It almost seems to me like the ACA isn’t helping them much by means of a separate system.

Why sign up for Obama death panels, when the VA is already completing that mission?
All I want is for Obama, Pelosi, Reid and Biden to receive the same healthcare that our vets currently get. It’s only fair.
Then give the vets health insurance or healthcare vouchers that they can spend wherever they wish.
It's hard to believe that everyone working for the VA didn't know how long it was taking vets to gets appointments. There should've been thousands of whistle blowers. I also can't believe that HOR and Senators weren't getting calls daily about the difficulty in getting appointments.
In DC, nobody is running the show, at least in terms of the real needs of US citizens.
I’ve been waiting 10 years for an appointment. They kicked the paperwork back twice and I got frustrated and quit trying.
