Please, everyone, remember this: HORSES do not pick their PEOPLE!

A good horse--and California Chrome is a VERY good horse--has no say in the conduct of his people. Do not think less of the horse because Coburn is obviously such a miserable loser.

Think no less of high-end racing, either. Just competing in this series of races is an honor, and MOST of the people involved understand this. The PROPER thing for Coburn to have done would be to congratulate the winner, and then run for the barn to see if his horse was hurt.

Anyone who has spent anytime around racing knows that most of the time YOU WILL LOSE. Your horse will not win. You hope that he will put in a game effort, and you PRAY that he comes back whole and sound.

Coburn does not deserve the horse.

Nobody cheated.

Most countries with racing have a Triple Crown series (there has not been a winner of the English TC since 1970) and none of them have a requirement that horses must compete in all three races.

I never thought less of the horse. California Chromes is obviously a good race horse. As you stated, it’s unfortunate that his owner’s a nincompoop.
