I realize you said that in jest, and sarcastically, but that is essentially how they look at it. The perks, status, income, prominence, and little empires they have do constitute a nice gig. And once there, they never want to give it up. In Washington this is known as Potomac Fever.
Nearly all of the other social justice laws imposed on us don't apply to congress either.
