I sat next to a guy on the subway once who told me how he could kill somebody with a ball point pen if attacked. People here sometimes confuse the gun with the willingness and courage to act quickly and counterattack.
There is no weapon in the world that will help you unless you are swift enough and fearless enough to simply attack your attacker. Attitude is all, and we’ve raised a very disempowered generation...except for people like this guy.
It’s funny but true - that’s one of the things I get a kick out of watching Jason Statham or the Bourne movies - creativity in offensive attacks. Yes, I know they’re just movies but the take-away point I thought was that the quick decisive decision is the major plus in the matter.
I’ve spent my life trying to act and not react. But... I have broken up fights and even a gang fight once just by reacting.
I’ve saved kids from drowning and running in front of cars, I once jumped into a running car than was careening toward a supermarket door and stopped it, broke all 5 of my fingernails opening the door to jump in.
The problem is that I never stop and assess, I just react. My husband says I’ll get myself killed some day but now I’m old enough I don’t care LOL.
