Colorado finds its pot of gold
CBS News ^ | June 10, 2014 | By BARRY PETERSEN

Colorado has a new cash crop.

New figures show that the state has been raking in profits since January, when it became the first in the nation to legalize the sale of marijuana for recreational use.

Add in sales taxes from lower taxed medical marijuana and so far this year the state has banked nearly $18 million.

Along with the big bucks have come some big problems.

Like 10 toddlers so far this year overdosing on edible marijuana products.

And from January through May, the Colorado State Patrol handed out 289 tickets to people driving under the influence of marijuana.

The tax money is supposed to be spent on schools, but some of it may be earmarked to hire more people to regulate this booming business and more cops to arrest those driving under the influence.

“.. so far this year the state has banked nearly $18 million.”

18 million? You got to be kidding me. By the time that all the social bills come due the paltry 18 million will be a drop in the bucket.

Colorado state government is gradually becoming a drug cartel. If you think Mexican drug cartels are bad, wait until the government and big business are making big time money from it.

You haven't a clue here. Government has been making billions off drug profits and making it illegal. They win either way here...This is so obvious. And what do ya think the drug cartels do with their money? They buy restaurant slop joint chains and hotel chains, and greedy mart franchises etc., etc. Government makes money off all that too.

Ya need to get educated here nick.

Being an out-of-stater,I for one don’t want to set foot in that state anymore unless it’s absolutely unavoidable. It used to be a nice place to visit.

Amendment X

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.

Of course. Doesn’t mean I have to participate. But seriously, we see more and more laws that the STATES (We The People) vote on and enact being reversed by the Feds - so WHO are the ones not following the Constitution?

“I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do. I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.” ~ Robert A. Heinlein

I’m a ‘ConservaTarian’ - that’s a Libertarian without the drug use. :)

Yeah, I would’ve thought it to be a lot higher.

As is becoming the “new normal”, police pick and choose which laws they choose to enforce at the whim of their political leaders. google “UC santa cruz” “420” to see pics of hundreds, maybe a thousand, people in one place flouting laws on the books with similar arrogance.
