Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Nebraskas Ben Sasse had the right idea when he suggested that the power of the lobbyists etc should be decentralized by putting the Capitol in the middle of nowhere and/or doing federal business via technology such as Skype so that the power is not all located in one big schmoozing media-political corruptocrazy. (typo but it fits so Ill leave it. lol) The Devil's bargain offered to Repubs: be "bipartisan" and you will live high in DC:parties, lobbyist-paid vacations and mistresses, and the press will take no interest. Cross the real Powers, and your life goes under a microscope.

Yes, the media won’t initially pay attention while the DC tomcats play. But it’s all recorded by the NSA just in case somebody eventually decides to buck the status quo...
To preserve the integrity of the whole system, the schmoozing trap needs to be broken.
